Coronation Street’s Joel is finally charged as Lisa Swain reveals damning evidence

As a long-time viewer of Coronation Street, I must say that tonight’s episode was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The plot twist with Betsy Swain and DS Lisa Swain was both surprising and well-executed. It’s not every day you see a police officer dealing with her own family’s trauma on the job.

In tonight’s gripping episode of Coronation Street, which aired on the 20th of September, 2024, Joel Deering (Calum Lill) was formally accused by the police for his heinous acts.

Following a worried visit by Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) to the hospital, Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) then conversed with Max Turner (Paddy Bever). He clarified that Betsy is actually the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

Max remembered Betsy’s surprised response regarding Joel and baby Frankie’s health issues following his seizure. As Lauren confronted Betsy, asking the reason for her visit, Carla Connor (played by Alison King) stepped in.

Feeling remorseful for having ordered the illegal abortion pills which Joel ultimately used on Lauren, Betsy shared her concerns with Carla, prompting her to bring Lisa into the conversation.

In scenes expertly portrayed by actress Martin, Betsy eventually confided in Lisa that she had procured the medications due to pressure from Joel, who insisted he required them for a sensitive case involving a vulnerable youth.

Lisa realized that Betsy had been tricked, and kindly suggested she file a formal police report to help catch Joel for his actions.

In the following events, Lisa apprehended Joel on charges of drugging Lauren. Meanwhile, Lauren was left heartbroken when it was revealed that she would be subject to supervision as a mother to Frankie, given the accusations against her for illegal abortions and the assault charge involving Joel.

If Joel’s involvement in Frankie’s early birth gets recognized, there could be a chance for Lauren and Frankie to avoid having to live in a foster home and instead deal directly with social services.

At the police station, I stood my ground against Joel’s assertion that he hadn’t purchased the drugs. I produced a recording, where it was Joel himself, compelling Betsy to make the drug order.

Joel eventually admitted that he had indeed made the transaction, but he falsely stated that the substances were intended for Betsy, whom he asserted was expecting a child.

In a remarkable display, Myers convincingly demonstrated their capabilities, remaining unruffled when they stated it would be straightforward for them to show that Betsy had never been pregnant.

At a later time, Lisa disclosed that the Child Protective Services (CPS) had consented to bring charges against Joel. However, Joel cautioned that obtaining a conviction from the police would prove difficult. Yet, Lisa countered by stating that they now possessed sufficient proof against him.

Joel received bail, albeit with a stern caution from Lisa that any misstep could lead to his immediate re-imprisonment. At his apartment, a police officer seized Joel’s mobile device as evidence, following which he was observed preparing a suitcase – only to abruptly abandon his plans in distress.

In the hospital’s bustling environment, I found myself filled with uncontainable joy as I cradled Frankie for the very first time. Dee-Dee Bailey, or Channique Sterling-Brown, shared with me that justice would be served towards Joel, and she hinted at further charges to come. Now, I’m left pondering: What will Joel do next?
