Coronation Street’s Joel leaves Dee-Dee disturbing message after terrorising Roy

As a longtime viewer of Coronation Street, I must say that the storyline involving Joel Deering has been nothing short of gripping and nerve-wracking. The character’s descent into darkness, culminating in his apparent intention to take his own life or go on the run, is a testament to the power of compelling narrative and strong acting.

In tonight’s Coronation Street (27th September 2024), Calum Lill, portrayed by Joel Deering, left a troubling message suggesting he was planning to bring an end to his destructive actions.

The evil character is on bail, awaiting trial for drugging victim Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) in an effort to murder their unborn baby boy, Frankie. With his predatory crimes coming to light, Joel would surely be facing further charges, too.

In the ongoing ITV soap, Dee-Dee Bailey (played by Channique Sterling-Brown) informed her father Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) and uncle Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) that what was meant to be her wedding day with Joel had turned into the day of his plea hearing.

While Joel stayed in his apartment, busy with jotting down thoughts in a notepad, he missed his scheduled plea hearing at the court. When they eventually located him, he was arrested and taken into custody.

In Joel’s absence, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) went to the hospital to inform Lauren, and requested Max Turner (Paddy Bever) to look after Lauren for the night in case Joel might pose a threat. While Lisa was momentarily away from the room, an anxious Lauren secretly took a can of self-defense spray from Lisa’s bag.

In the café, an inebriated Joel showed up carrying a bottle and secured the place for the night. He then poured out his remorse to Roy Cropper (David Neilson), admitting that he was unable to confront the individuals he had wronged.

In a more straightforward manner: Joel expressed regret for letting Roy get imprisoned due to his own wrongdoings, and Roy advised him to turn himself in honestly. However, Joel destroyed the café’s telephone before Roy could dial the police.

Joel asserted that he wasn’t an aggressive individual, even going as far as promising to cover the damages. However, his peaceful demeanor was shattered when Alison King’s character, Carla Connor, appeared on the scene, at which point Joel promptly left.

Carla informed Lisa, meanwhile Max and Lauren inspected Roy’s condition prior to going to the Platts. Upon arrival, Lauren listened carefully due to concerns that Joel might be nearby.

However, Joel wasn’t long after spotted in his vehicle, where he left a heartfelt message for Dee-Dee, expressing his love. He also admitted that things were beyond repair and perhaps he could bring joy to everyone by making a last decision.

As soon as Joel ended the call, a shift appeared on his face. Was he pretending to be upset, or was he possibly contemplating suicide?

Next week’s official revelations suggest a discrepancy between Lisa’s belief that Joel is deceased and Dee-Dee’s assumption he fled. Exactly what happened to Joel remains to be seen.
