Coronation Street’s Rowan faces police charges as cult storyline concludes

As a long-time viewer of Coronation Street, I must say that tonight’s episode was a breath of fresh air! The comeuppance of Rowan Cunliffe, that con-artist scoundrel, was indeed sweet justice. Leanne Battersby, my favorite character, has been through so much in her life, and finally, she managed to see right through Rowan’s tricks. Kudos to Jane Danson for delivering an outstanding performance!

On the 13th of September, 2024, in an episode of Coronation Street, it was proven that swindler Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper) received his just desserts. Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) outsmarted him by deceiving him into admitting his wrongdoing.

In an attempt to portray himself as a victim of the enigmatic Institute, Rowan sought to persuade Leanne into handing back his questionable digital files and evading legal consequences. However, Leanne had ultimately discerned his deception, leading the authorities to apprehend Rowan.

Following the events, Sam Blakeman, Leanne’s stepson (played by Jude Riordan), encouraged Leanne and her stepsister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) to let go of their past with Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), who had been unfaithful, and focus on rebuilding their family bond. Despite Toyah’s relationship with Nick, Sam suggested they should come together as a strong family unit.

In the meantime, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), was anxiously awaiting updates about Rowan from the authorities. Unfortunately, she had been tricked into handing over her inheritance to him and the Institute.

In the end, it was Toyah who prepared meals for a sorrowful Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank). Eventually, she managed to convince Leanne to lend a hand.

Leanne disclosed that she intended to cease examining the AI created by the Institute, which represented her deceased son Oliver, with the purpose of winning her affections.

When Toyah attempted to foster optimism by pointing out to Leanne that she now had control over her life again, Leanne retorted in a mocking tone, hinting that there was still something amiss – indeed, she added sarcastically: it’s just the lack of Nick!

Upon Nick’s arrival, he shared that the authorities had reached out, and Rowan was indicted for blackmail and fraud, meaning a prison sentence was imminent for him.

Leanne felt disheartened that the entire questionable corporation seemed to have escaped punishment for their misdeeds, but Nick reassured her by pointing out that they had at least managed to bring down despicable Rowan.

With that, Leanne coldly dismissed Nick – which was exactly what he deserved!

Now that Rowan is no longer a factor, can Leanne start anew with her life? Will Amy manage to recover her funds?
