In the upcoming film “Crawl,” the fearsome alligators are making a comeback, much to the excitement of director Alexadre Aja. This filmmaker, whose 2019 production delved into the destructive superstorms that have been prevalent in America for the past decade, featured Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper as leads fighting against a colossal alligator…or so they believed! However, it was later revealed that they were being pursued by a swarm, escalating the film’s tension midway through. This plot twist echoes the strategy used in the first “The Meg” movie, but “Crawl” offers the foreboding atmosphere of a submerged home to heighten the suspense.
During a recent conversation, Aja expressed that he’s constantly been on the lookout for potential locations and subtly refining the concept of the first film in his mind. As a result, he’s eager to begin working on the sequel and bring some of those thoughts to life.
Aja shared with CinemaBlend that regrettably, storms and hurricanes didn’t cease after the movie Crawl was premiered. Watching the constant stream of such footage on TV, he often finds himself contemplating various shooting setups, alternative options, which could create a thrilling survival scene in Crawl. Therefore, he is eager to revisit these ideas and once again don his wetsuit for the screen.
Here’s the official synopsis for the first film:
In the face of a colossal hurricane threatening her Florida hometown, determined teen Haley defies the evacuation notices to seek her lost father, Dave. Upon locating him severely injured within their family residence, they are subsequently trapped by the swiftly advancing floodwaters. As the storm intensifies, Haley and Dave uncover a more daunting peril than the escalating water level – a relentless onslaught from a horde of enormous alligators.
Crawl is available on disc and digital.
At the moment, Aja is advocating for the movie titled “Never Let Go.” In this film, as an unimaginable evil sweeps across the globe, a mother and her twin sons find their only sanctuary in their home and the powerful bond they share. To maintain contact at all times, they resort to connecting themselves with ropes. This bond compels them to hold onto each other tightly, never letting go. However, when one of the boys begins to doubt the existence of this evil, it leads to a separation that triggers a harrowing struggle for survival.
Never Let Go hails from Lionsgate, and will be in theaters on September 20th.
