Creature Commandos Executive Producer Teases "Fantastic" DCU Series (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for DC comics and an eye for quality animation, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming release of Creature Commandos! Having witnessed the magic that James Gunn has woven in projects like Guardians of the Galaxy, I can’t help but be intrigued by this new venture into the DC Universe. The fact that Dean Lorey, a veteran executive producer who’s worked on Harley Quinn and Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, is praising it as one of his favorites makes me even more optimistic about its success.

The new DC Universe envisioned by James Gunn and Peter Safran is on the verge of coming to life, starting with the animated show titled “Creature Commandos.” Written by none other than Gunn himself, this series promises a fresh perspective on the DC team sharing the same name. Featuring an impressive roster of both cast and crew members, including seasoned DC executive producer Dean Lorey, who recently spoke highly of “Creature Commandos” to ComicBook. During his discussions about “Harley Quinn” and “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!”, Lorey hinted that the diverse array of characters in “Creature Commandos” will leave fans speechless when it premieres in December.

Lorey shared that the production process was unique because James Gunn had already written all the scripts before filming began, which is not something he typically does when he’s involved in a show. This allowed us to jump right into production since we had prepared scripts at hand. Additionally, we were fortunate to secure an exceptional voice cast for the series, with Harley, Kite Man, and the Creature Commandos all delivering stellar performances. Working with James was a joy due to his clear vision for the show and extensive knowledge of the universe he’s creating. Overall, it has been a delightful experience, and we believe this release will stand out from others in its genre. While people might not fully grasp the excitement yet, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Lorey expressed his affection for every character when asked about his favorite. “I genuinely adore them all,” he said. “However, there’s something special about G.I. Robot that resonates with me deeply. I was intrigued when Sean Gunn came to record because I wasn’t sure what a robot portrayed by him would sound like or how robotic it would be. But he infused such human-like warmth into the character. He also played Weasel, another captivating role. Each of these characters is prominently showcased in various episodes, allowing us to delve deeply into their stories… It’s certainly an adult series. Yet, there’s a delicate sweetness that permeates many of the characters as we explore their tales.

What Is Creature Commandos About?

Creature Commandos follows a clandestine group of imprisoned monstrous beings who are called upon for assignments that are far too risky for human personnel. In situations where all other options have been exhausted… they become the least desirable, yet necessary choice.

The ensemble of the “Creature Commandos” features Steve Agee playing Economos, Maria Bakalova taking on the role of Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao cast as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo in the part of Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn portraying both GI Robot and Weasel, David Harbour assuming the character of Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis embodying Amanda Waller. This series is penned and overseen by James Gunn, and it’s based on DC characters, produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register serve as executive producers, with Rick Morales acting as the supervising producer.

Creature Commandos will premiere exclusively on Max on Thursday, December 5th.
