Creature Commandos: Is the Grodd Prophecy Real (or Is There Another Big DCU Twist Coming)?

As a long-time DC Comics fan, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns, but the latest episode of Creature Commandos has left me scratching my head more than ever. The plot thickens with each new revelation, and I find myself questioning the motives of every character we’re introduced to.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I must say that Episode 4 of Creature Commandos took the tension to a whole new level for Task Force M. The team moved from dealing with a risky VIP protection mission to a situation where they might need to eliminate the very individual they were assigned to safeguard – all to avert a chilling vision of the future that hints at catastrophe for some of the DCU’s most iconic heroes.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW!

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’d rephrase that scene like this: “In ‘Chasing Squirrels,’ Task Force M apprehends the sorceress Circe from the Amazonian wilderness and transports her to Belle Reve prison for questioning by Amanda Waller. Exhausted, Circe proposes to demonstrate why she was so determined to eliminate Princess Rostovic using a psychic projection – an offer Waller can’t resist. The vision that unfolds reveals Rostovic and her Pokolistan military forces joining forces with none other than Gorilla Grodd, who leads them on a global war campaign, ultimately resulting in the crucifixion of icons such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and numerous other DCU heroes on the battlefield. This shocking revelation causes Waller to reassess her priorities, promptly reassigning Task Force M from protective detail to an assassination team.

Creature Commandos: Is Princess Rostovic Really A Villain?

To this point, Princess Ilana Rostovic (portrayed by Maria Bakalova) has been portrayed as a daring, lively, and impassioned leader, lacking any indicators suggesting she is secretly a malevolent figure capable of world domination. However, the origin of the vision coming from Circe – one of DC’s most ancient and frequently deceptive villains – raises concerns. Additionally, the inclusion of Gorilla Grodd in this storyline seems curious: Grodd possesses psychic abilities enabling him to control minds telepathically and manipulate objects with telekinesis – skills that could allow him to subtly plant misleading visions. Moreover, it’s possible that Circe and Grodd are collaborating as part of a larger villainous alliance such as the Injustice League or the Legion of Doom; Waller and Task Force M’s activities in Pokolistan could be a minor aspect of a more extensive global scheme being orchestrated by several DC Universe villains.

Then again, there are some key details of the vision to note. Start with the fact that Princess Rostovic’s gorgeous face has been scarred by some kind of claws – claws that arguably could belong to several different members of Task Force M. Her expression (while wearing her medieval-style armored mechsuit) looks like that of a woman who has both seen and been through dark times. In that foreshadowed context, it’s plausible that something happens that makes Ilana go from being the plucky girl she Is now to being a stern war general leading her people.

If James Gunn were to utilize this vision as a blueprint for his narrative, it would add an unexpected twist. Should Task Force M react to Circe’s vision and Waller’s instructions in certain ways, they might unwittingly radicalize Ilana initially. This could particularly occur if they attempt to assassinate her but only manage to injure her instead – a possibility hinted at in the vision. Such a narrative would align well with a typical James Gunn tale: a group of troubled individuals striving for redemption unknowingly sets off a chain reaction leading to a global conflict, potentially escalating into a situation similar to the global strife portrayed in Gunn’s Superman movie trailer.

Creature Commandos is streaming on Max.
