Creepshow Board Game Announced (Exclusive)

As a longtime fan of horror anthology series and tabletop games, I’m thrilled to hear about Skybound Entertainment’s new offering: “Creepshow: The Suspense Building Game.” Having grown up watching the original Creepshow TV show and reading the accompanying comics, this announcement brings back fond memories.

Skybound Tabletop unveils a fresh board game adaptation of the “Creepshow” franchise, exclusively reported by ComicBook. This autumn, Skybound will introduce “Creepshow: The Game of Suspense Building.” Inspired by the “Creepshow” TV series created by Greg Nicotro, with additional comic anthologies published by Skybound, this game invites players to construct narratives using Story Cards, aiming to fill them with tension. Players may attempt to disrupt one another’s stories as well, incorporating elements of risk-taking and sabotage mechanics in the process. For a sneak peek at the game, please see the image below:

Creepshow Board Game Announced (Exclusive)

In an email interview, ComicBook obtained information from Garima Sharma, Vice President of Licensing at Skybound Entertainment, to learn more about the latest Creepshow video game.

Question Transformation:

Garima Sharma: Transforming “Creepshow” into a tabletop game required us to preserve its essential features: the mix of amusing and terrifying commentary from the Creep’s perspective, increasing anxiety culminating in gory climaxes, a range of horror themes, and the stunning illustrations contributed by Skybound’s editorial team. Our goal was for players to assume the roles of Creeps instead of characters, with a focus on creating engaging horror narratives centered around unsympathetic protagonists, making this game distinct from typical survival horror experiences.

How does the Suspense and sabotage mechanics work within the game?

1) Sharma explains: Story cards combine to create a narrative for each villain, divided into three acts. The intrigue is kept high with suspense cards, which drive the story forward. A ‘+’ sign on a Story card indicates that suspense cards should be added to it. The number following the ‘+’ usually tells you how many suspense cards are needed alongside the Suspense symbol.

Ultimately, there are three ways to earn points and win the game:

1. Place high Suspense cards onto Villains and claim them when their story is done.

1. Test your wits by predicting the suspense level in a tale, using my intuition and Suspense-Checking cards as my guide.

3. Undermine narratives using cards with less Suspense value, causing opponents to finish their stories prematurely and earning you extra points.

How long will the game take to play?

According to the number of participants and the level of amusing or frightening the narratives become, each gaming session ought to last approximately 40-60 minutes.

As a devoted gamer and an avid fan of the Creepshow universe, I’m excitedly wondering if this new game will pay homage to the source material that made it so iconic. Will we encounter nods to the groundbreaking TV series or the chilling original tales penned by Stephen King himself? Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Sharma: Our game is modeled after Greg Nicotero’s Shudder TV series “Creepshow,” though it doesn’t specifically reference any stories penned by Stephen King. Instead, we’ve focused on preserving the spirit of this cherished franchise. The narrative style, suspenseful moments, and artwork in our game are all reminiscent of “Creepshow” classics, making fans feel welcome in this chilling yet enjoyable world.

Did you receive any feedback or input from Greg Nicotero about the game?

Sharma: Our top-notch licensing team, comprised of Cartel Entertainment, Striker Entertainment, and Greg Nicotero’s Monster Agency Productions, collaborates closely with us on our Creepshow tabletop game and comics. Greg himself shared his thoughts for this article, expressing his eagerness to contribute to the Creepshow franchise through this project. As he put it, “I couldn’t be more thrilled about designing monsters for this game and expanding the Creepshow universe with even more terrifying fun.”
