Crime season 2 cast: Who stars in the ITV drama?

As I delve into the intriguing world of “Crime”, I find myself captivated by the complex characters that populate this gripping drama. Dougie Gillman, portrayed by Jamie Sives, is a Detective Inspector who seems to have a knack for breaking rules and mending hearts, much like a mischievous teenager caught between rebellion and responsibility. His life experience mirrors a rollercoaster ride, filled with ups and downs, but his unwavering determination to bring justice to the vulnerable is undeniably commendable.

On Wednesday, the 7th of August, I’m eagerly tuning into ITV1 for the arrival of the second season of their Crime series on ITV1. Expect another intense episode in this gripping television drama.

In this latest installment, I find myself once again delving into the complex world of Detective Inspector Ray Lennox (Dougray Scott), who has returned to the ranks of Edinburgh’s Serious Crimes unit. Eager to demonstrate his complete recovery from the emotional turmoil that followed his pivotal role in apprehending Mr Confectioner during season 1, Ray is determined to prove his mettle and regain the trust of his colleagues.

According to the summary: “When an old acquaintance of Lennox gets assaulted, Lennox and Drummond soon figure out that things aren’t what they seem as they find themselves involved in a mystery revolving around revenge, self-discovery, and fairness.”

The six-episode show is inspired by Irvine Welsh’s 2008 novel with the same title, serving as a follow-up to his 1998 publication “Glue.” In simpler terms, the TV series is based on a 2008 book by Irvine Welsh that continues the story started in his 1998 book titled “Glue.”

In the second season, several recognizable individuals join Scott. Here’s a rundown of the key characters in Crime and their previous appearances you might recognize.

Dougray Scott plays DI Ray Lennox

Who is DI Ray Lennox, according to Scott’s description? He portrays this character as a tough yet delicate, vengeful, and compassionate guardian figure, relentlessly working to give representation to those marginalized in society and safeguarding the defenseless.

The Detective Inspector, who had been mistreated as a child, chose to join the police force not for upholding law and order, but to seek out and eliminate evil in all its forms, using legitimate or unorthodox methods. Now, he’s engaged in a murder investigation that unfortunately stirs up his past struggles.

Have I ever encountered Dougray Scott in any previous roles? His resume boasts Mission: Impossible 2, Batwoman, the period film Ever After, the thriller The Diplomat, Desperate Housewives, Taken 3, Netflix’s Hemlock Grove, and BBC One drama The Replacement.

Joanna Vanderham plays Amanda Drummond

Who is DS Amanda Drummond? She is the detective sergeant who works alongside Lennox and recently received a promotion. When Lennox’s mental health issues arise, Drummond steps up to ensure things run smoothly. Her work style is methodical, following procedures strictly which stands in contrast to Lennox’s unconventional approach to his job. As one of the few women on the team, she faces outdated views from some of her male colleagues.

Have you spotted Joanna Vanderham somewhere else, perhaps in BBC series such as The Control Room, The Paradise, Dancing on the Edge, or One of Us?

Ken Scott plays Bob Toal

Who is Bob Toal? He is a seasoned police officer known for his short temper, eagerly awaiting retirement. Bob is particular about upholding justice through lawful methods, which often clashes with Lennox. However, he supports Lennox in ways that could compromise his own reputation among his superiors.

Have I encountered Ken Stott in any previous roles? Yes, he’s been featured in BBC thriller “The Missing”, ITV police drama “The Vice”, detective series “Rebus”, BBC drama “Messiah”, as well as the movie trilogy “The Hobbit”.

David Elliott plays Tommy Stark

Who is Tommy Stark? Known as “your worst nightmare,” Detective Inspector Stark has recently moved from the Vice division to Serious Crime. He’s described as being self-centered and misogynistic, with a five-year career plan that seems to involve bad luck befalling many of his coworkers.

Have I encountered David Elliott somewhere before? Let me see… Recently, he played the role of Sutherland in BBC’s Vigil and appeared in FBI: International. Previously, I recognized him from his roles in Bulletproof, The Cry, and Clique.

Brian McCardie plays Norrie Erskine

Who, exactly, is DS Norrie Erskine? This character in the series is known for being Stark’s partner and harboring a number of seedy secrets. He is often perceived as unmotivated, merely completing daily tasks with the ultimate goal of receiving his pension upon retirement.

In my recollection, I’ve encountered the late Brian McCardie in several engrossing productions. He graced our screens with memorable performances on Time and Line of Duty, while also captivating me in Murder is Easy and The Long Shadow.

Gabriel Scott plays Fraser

What can you tell me about Fraser? Fraser is a university student with a curious mind and political leanings. Despite coming from a middle class, well-educated background, there’s a hint of embarrassment in his upbringing. It seems that Fraser may soon find out that his past has been more cloistered than he realized, implying that he still has much to learn.

Crime season 1 cast

Angela Griffin plays Trudi Lowe

Who is Trudi Lowe? She is a member of the management team at our local energy company, taking an active role in addressing the problem of toxic masculinity within her workplace following her involvement in a “#metoo” incident with a junior coworker, aiming to make it a more inclusive and respectful environment.

Trudi and Lennox are still in the initial phase of their relationship, so she’s not fully aware of his past. As more light is shed on his past due to the intensifying investigation, she may find herself standing by his side during his struggles, becoming a source of support and potentially helping him overcome his challenges. This could be likened to catching an angel fighting its battles, as he stumbles along the way.

Have you possibly recognized Angela Griffin from her roles in shows like Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, Holby City, Netflix’s White Lines, or the BBC drama Cutting It?

Jamie Sives plays Dougie Gillman

What’s the background of Dougie Gillman? He is identified as a Detective Inspector, often characterized as rough, impolite, headstrong, and confrontational. Despite his infidelities towards his wife on numerous occasions and his tendency to bend the law casually, he has a strong resolve to eliminate criminals, especially those who prey upon children.

Have you come across Jamie Sives in any previous roles? He is primarily recognized for his work on the BBC Scottish thriller Guilt, but you may also remember him from series such as Annika, BBC’s The Victim, and Rockface.

Michael Abubakar plays Stuart McCorkel

Who is Stuart McCorkel? A Detective Constable who works on Lennox’s team.

Have I encountered Michael Abubakar somewhere previously? He’s recognizable from his roles in the BBC medical drama “Trust Me” and as a character actor in “Horrible Histories”.

John Simm plays Gareth Horsborough aka Mr Confectioner

Gareth Horsborough, often referred to as “Mr Confectioner,” is a notorious individual known for being a pedophile and murderer. He seeks attention, fame, and admiration, boasting about his cleverness. Lennox suspects him in the disappearance of Britney Hamil.

Have I encountered John Simm in any other roles aside from Life on Mars, Doctor Who, 24 Hour Party People, State of Play, Sex Traffic, Exile, Mad Dogs, The Village, and Strangers? He is particularly recognized for his work in these series.
