Over time, there’s been growing excitement and anticipation surrounding the game called Crimson Desert. Initially known only to a select few and perhaps just as “the single-player spinoff” of the MMORPG Black Desert, this project has expanded and grown in both scale and ambition, transforming into a separate, self-contained entity that’s left a lasting impression on many with its numerous presentations throughout the years.
At GamingBolt, we’ve been closely monitoring the progress of Crimson Desert, an upcoming open-world action adventure title from Pearl Abyss. Through various articles, we’ve delved deep into the game, providing extensive information, and explaining why it has piqued our interest. We firmly believe that this game could be one of the most outstanding releases in 2025.
So far, Pearl Abyss has been generous with showcasing the game, releasing plenty of gameplay footage and trailers. These have given us extensive glimpses into the game’s world, combat, boss fights, traversal mechanics, and many other aspects, much of which has left us quite impressed.
Given the flurry of game announcements, reveals, and updates this summer, Crimson Desert is continuing to showcase its unique features to keep the anticipation for its release at a high level.
At Summer Game Fest, Pearl Abyss unveiled fresh glimpses of “Crimson Desert” gameplay, and we can’t help but stay excited as the game progresses. During this event, they shared a small amount of new footage (approximately 2 minutes) with the media, but what they revealed to a broader audience is another intriguing blend that emphasizes some of the game’s most promising aspects. This latest preview doesn’t showcase groundbreaking content, but it underscores the elements that seem to be among “Crimson Desert”‘s greatest assets.
Predominantly, it’s the combat that stands out among other elements, as expected. This has been consistent throughout previous demonstrations of Crimson Desert, with its engaging and visually striking combat system often stealing the show. The latest footage from Summer Game Fest continues this trend, starting with an intense, chaotic battle scene before transitioning to a more personal, one-on-one fight against a boss. Each facet of combat shown looks robust and promising.
From a fan’s perspective, the movement in Crimson Desert appears smooth, swift, and nimble, setting the stage for rapid, intense, and deeply gratifying combat. Admittedly, it’s hard to fully appreciate this until I get my hands on the game controller and experience the game’s dynamics firsthand. However, based on what I’ve seen so far, Crimson Desert seems poised to deliver agile, stylish, and impactful combat that prioritizes not just dealing damage, but also fluid movement.
The energy of battles is equally captivating, and this is most notably showcased during the mentioned boss fight. At a specific moment, the player delivers an attack which sends pillars surrounding the battlefield collapsing. This not only offers a thrilling environmental destruction element that intensifies the combat, but then the player further seizes one of the fallen pillars and bashes the boss, dealing a powerful blow that noticeably depletes its health bar.
Should Crimson Desert continue to offer such spontaneity and variability, players will undoubtedly be thrilled. It would be impractical (to put it mildly) to anticipate the game maintaining this level of surprise in every single battle, but if the game can infuse a decent dose of that element of unpredictability, battles will feel significantly more exhilarating.
Besides the captivating combat, Crimson Desert is also drawing attention for its remarkable traversal mechanics. In previous gameplay demonstrations, this aspect has already made a strong impression due to the emphasis on swift, agile, and elevated movement. This includes quick sprints and evasive maneuvers as well as unique gliding techniques, additional movement options to enhance verticality, and more. The aim appears to be to offer a wider array of choices for players, which they can then utilize strategically. It remains to be seen how much this added flexibility and complexity will influence the overall combat and exploration experience in Crimson Desert, but it seems poised to make a substantial difference with skillful execution.
In the recently revealed footage by Pearl Abyss, we didn’t get a extensive look at the expansive and diverse open world featured in Crimson Desert. The developers have often highlighted the grandeur of the game’s world, positioning it as one of its key attractions. Although this new footage didn’t show much, previous glimpses have been intriguing enough to subtly increase our anticipation. With the traversal mechanics, environmental variations, and massive scale Crimson Desert promises, its open world seems primed to become something truly compelling. Here’s hoping it delivers on this promise, even if it doesn’t quite meet the highest expectations. Regardless, based on what we’ve seen so far, it appears that Crimson Desert will offer an engaging open world adventure, particularly for those who appreciate this gameplay style.
Beyond its primary combat and navigation aspects, the game Crimson Desert stands out significantly with its visuals and technology. Pearl Abyss has been boasting about their in-house engine, BlackSpace, for a while now, and it’s clear that this upcoming action-adventure title is living up to the hype. The engine appears to be laying a solid foundation for stunning, detailed environments, dynamic lighting and shadows, impressive draw distances, and much more. In various ways, Crimson Desert is captivating and holding our attention with its visuals. Admittedly, there are occasional rough edges, but with the launch date yet to come, it’s safe to assume that these will be smoothed out.
What’s currently on everyone’s mind who’s eagerly waiting for the release of Crimson Desert is the big question: When will we actually be able to play it? As of now, there’s an official release date set for late 2025 for Crimson Desert. However, rumors have circulated that the action-adventure title might launch as early as December, but no official announcement has been made yet. Pearl Abyss is expected to provide clearer details on this matter sooner rather than later, as our excitement for the game continues to build and we can’t wait to find out when we can start playing it ourselves.
