Cronos: The New Dawn Shows Off Gory Gameplay in New Trailer

If you’re excited about the Silent Hill 2 Remake and are eagerly anticipating the Silent Hill Remake, then you might be interested in keeping an eye on Cronos: The New Dawn, another survival horror game by Bloober Team set to release this Fall. Instead of the misty cityscape of Silent Hill, this upcoming title offers a post-apocalyptic backdrop from Poland. Ever since its announcement last year, it’s been creating quite a stir, and with today’s recently released gameplay trailer, it’s evident why. Unlike other trailers, this one concentrates solely on the grisly scenes and haunting landscapes that The Traveler will encounter during their journey. The trailer is devoid of any cinematics, focusing purely on the gore and horror elements.

In terms of plot, not much has been revealed yet, but what we do know is that Cronos: The New Dawn revolves around a character known as The Traveler, who represents the enigmatic group called The Collective. This story takes place in 1980s Poland and involves locating individuals who survived an apocalyptic event named The Change, which transformed many humans into grotesque creatures called Orphans. Unlike Bloober Team’s previous works like Blair Witch and The Medium, this project seems to be a departure, but it promises to maintain the survival horror elements that fans have grown fond of from the studio.

Cronos: The New Dawn‘s Gameplay Trailer Gives Off Dead Space Vibes

In a brief, approximately two-minute trailer, The Traveler is shown navigating deserted Polish cityscapes. Though Orphan enemies are sparsely positioned, it appears they’ll be formidable adversaries, as eliminating them requires more than a single well-aimed shot. The gameplay seems to echo that of Dead Space, where Necromorphs were difficult to defeat and required dismemberment before they could be neutralized. However, Cronos: The New Dawn appears to introduce an additional complexity – certain enemies, such as the one encountered by The Traveler in the hardware store, can fuse with the bodies of slain Orphans, becoming stronger. This suggests that strategic thinking will be crucial when confronting these types of opponents, creating a situation beyond the usual survival horror experience.

As a devotee of horror gaming, I can’t help but acknowledge the meteoric rise of Bloober Team. From crafting a P.T.-esque masterpiece like Layers of Fear to their innovative reimagining of Blair Witch, this Poland-based powerhouse has stolen the spotlight. Their 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2, a game originally lauded in 2001, was a testament to their skill, breathing new life into a classic. In our review, we awarded it a near-perfect score of 4.5 out of 5, praising them for capturing the essence of games from that early PS2 era so authentically, it sparked a wave of nostalgia and left me yearning to revisit more gems from that period.

This week, Bloober Team and Konami revealed a new partnership for a remake of the 1999 original _Silent Hill_. If you appreciate haunting settings, intense battles, and plenty of chills, it looks like _Cronos: The New Dawn_ could be an ideal choice – without any time-travel necessary.

Cronos: The New Dawn will release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
