Crunchyroll Announces Gachiakuta as Crunchyroll Exclusive With New Trailer

2025 is shaping up to be an action-packed year for Studio Bones! This spring brought us “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes”, and fall saw the final season of “My Hero Academia” grace our screens. And, get ready for another exciting addition this summer – “Gachiakuta”! Though it may not share the same universe as Kohei Horikoshi’s creations, it promises an energy that could rival them. Excitingly, Crunchyroll has confirmed they will be the exclusive platform to stream this highly anticipated anime sensation starting July! The story unfolds in a nihilistic junkyard, and fans are eagerly awaiting its arrival.

As an onlooker, I’m thrilled to share that Crunchyroll, a globally recognized anime brand, has made a bold move by embracing the concept of “trash television” in a fresh manner. The premier anime streaming service has just revealed some exciting news in a recent press release – Gachiakuta, the highly anticipated shonen anime adapted from the manga serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine, will be exclusively streamed on its platform starting Summer 2025. This captivating production is brought to you by the esteemed Bones Film studio, renowned for masterpieces like My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Gachiakuta promises to mesmerize viewers with its electrifying action sequences, a distinctive graffiti-inspired art style, and an intense storyline revolving around vengeance – all unfolding in a dystopian world where trash and criminals are banished to an endless abyss within a floating city.

What’s a Gachiakuta Anyway?

If you’re new to Gachiakuta or could use a reminder about its plot, Crunchyroll explains this shonen series as follows: “Rudo resides in a floating town’s slums, where the less fortunate struggle while the wealthy live lavishly, casually discarding their waste into the abyss below.

The story goes on, “One day, he is wrongfully accused of murder. This false conviction results in an unbearable punishment – exile from the edge, alongside all the unwanted. On the surface, the discarded remnants of humanity have evolved into savage creatures. If Rudo intends to uncover the truth and take revenge on those who sent him to Hell, he must learn a new power and align with a group called the Cleaners, who fight against the colossal monsters that inhabit the Pit.

Gachiakuta’s Creators

With the grand announcement, the streaming platform also garnered feedback from the creators. Screenwriter Hiroshi Seko expressed, “Writing scripts for Gachiakuta stirs up in me a desire to crank up some tunes, step out for a good time, and catch up with my colleagues over a great meal.
