Crystal Mangum Admits She Lied About Duke Athletes Rape Allegation

As a compassionate observer, I find myself deeply moved by the transformation and admission of Crystal Mangum. Her journey from accuser to apologizer is a testament to the complexities of human nature, and the power of self-reflection and redemption.

Crystal Mangum is ready to apologize.

20 years have passed since I, an ardent fan, found myself embroiled in a scandal involving Duke University lacrosse players Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and David Evans, who were falsely accused of rape in 2006. Recently, the woman who sparked this controversy publicly confessed, for the first time, that her allegations against these gentlemen were nothing but a lie.

During an interview at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (where she’s serving a separate sentence for the 2013 second-degree murder of her ex-boyfriend, as reported by NBC News), Mangum clarified some misconceptions.

That night, Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and Dave Evans welcomed me into their home and placed their trust in me, as she shared with Katerena DePasquale on the Let’s Talk With Kat podcast’s Dec. 11 episode. The Bible warns against causing harm to one who lives nearby in peace, and these men were like brothers to me; they believed in my honesty, and I unfortunately violated that trust by testifying falsely against them when they were not guilty of the crime I had accused them of – rape.

She stated, “That was incorrect, and I violated the faith placed in me by many others, fabricating a tale out of a desire for validation from people rather than from God.

The woman, currently 46 years old but only 28 at the time of the accusations, has shared her desire for forgiveness from Seligmann, Finnerty, and Evans.

Mangum stated, ‘I wish for them to understand my affection for them, but it was not deserved. I pray they’ll find forgiveness in their hearts, heal, lean on faith, and grasp the love of God.’

TopMob News contacted Seligmann, Finnerty, and Evans seeking their comments, however, we are still awaiting their responses.

In the year 2006, when Mangum was studying at North Carolina Central University, she claimed to the police that she was assaulted by three men, who were in their late teens to early twenties at the time, inside a bathroom during a Duke lacrosse party where she had been employed as entertainment. This information was reported by People magazine at the time, based on court records.

According to reports from local news source WRAL, based on court documents, Mangum claimed that she was brutally attacked by the three men. This assault included being physically beaten, sexually assaulted, and raped, which lasted approximately half an hour.

Initially, Seligmann, Finnerty, and Evans faced several accusations, including rape charges. However, Mangum’s allegation was later found to be false, as there was no DNA evidence linking her to the players when they were eventually cleared of all charges.

Back then, Roy Cooper, who is now North Carolina’s governor, chose not to pursue perjury charges against Mangum. His reasoning, shared with reporters during that time, was based on the assumption of investigators that “she might have genuinely believed the various stories she had been telling.

Now, almost two decades later, Mangum says she doesn’t have regrets.

She stated that everything occurs as a means to lead everyone to their current state. It’s all part of demonstrating God’s love, His capacity for forgiveness, His grace, and His compassion.
