While classic Stephen King tales such as the newly released ‘The Monkey’ are being adapted for film for the first time (to widespread praise), the remakes of movies based on his books are ongoing, with the latest being an update of his “Cujo” novel.
In 1983, a film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1981 novel “Cujo” was released. Dee Wallace and Danny Pintauro played the roles of the mother and son who battled against a once-beloved St. Bernard that had transformed into their most formidable foe after being bitten by a bat. This vicious canine, stumbling about, drooling excessively, and relentlessly pursuing the woman, was a sight not seen since our editor’s bachelor party. (A humorous exclamation – Ed)
Netflix has given the go-ahead for a new adaptation of Cujo, with renowned producer Roy Lee at the helm. Notably, he’s known for his work on the more recent Salem’s Lot remake and the highly acclaimed ‘Companion’.
In his time, Cujo garnered a relatively large sum of approximately $21 million. On the other hand, King, with 65 published novels under his belt and over 200 short stories, has sold the rights globally and these works have been eagerly sought for adaptations into films and television shows, almost invariably.
