Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Has a New City That Feels Like “Chicago Gone Wrong,” Says Creator

Since CD Projekt RED unveiled The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards, they’ve been gradually revealing tidbits of information such as increased player autonomy and a “deeper, more engaging world”. In contrast, updates about Project Orion, the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077, have been scarce. One of the unknowns is whether it continues in Night City.

It’s been unveiled that there’s a fresh destination to discover within Orion – Mike Pondsmith, the brain behind Cyberpunk, mentioned during an interview at Digital Dragons 2025, “There’s another city we delve into. Night City remains, but when I saw it, I thought, ‘Yes, I grasp the vibe you’re aiming for, and this fits perfectly.’

Additionally, it doesn’t evoke the atmosphere of “Blade Runer”. Instead, it seems like a dystopian version of Chicago that has fallen into disarray. Upon observing it, I replied, ‘Yes, I can imagine this concept taking shape.’

While it’s not definitive that characters in Cyberpunk 2077 will travel to Chicago, there are strong indications based on billboards advertising a three-hour trip from Night City to Chicago by 2080, which aligns with the construction of Night Corp’s maglev connection according to the game’s official timeline. However, it’s yet to be determined if Night City will be accessible and how much it has altered in the game.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got my eyes peeled on an exciting project that’s been brewing since February 2024 – it’s tentatively known as Project Orion, but no official title has been set just yet. The team behind it is aiming to create the most immersive and responsive crowd system ever seen in a game, according to a job listing I stumbled upon earlier this year. Keep your fingers crossed for more updates on this promising venture!
