Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 Will Use DLSS in All Modes

As a gamer eagerly anticipating the launch of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2, I’m thrilled to know that CD Projekt RED is leveraging Nvidia’s DLSS technology. In a chat with Eurogamer, they mentioned that this tech helps maintain a steady frame rate while still delivering impressive visuals. So, here’s hoping for a smooth and visually stunning experience when I dive into the world of Night City!

As per CD Projekt RED, the special edition of Cyberpunk 2077, namely the Ultimate Edition, is set to utilize a customized version of Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology, which appears to have been tailor-made for the hypothetical Nintendo Switch 2. Regardless of whether you’re playing it handheld, docking it, or switching between performance and quality modes, DLSS will be employed in every case on this console.

The studio revealed that they are employing a variant of DLSS compatible with potential Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, which is driven by Nvidia’s Tensor cores. In other words, this game incorporates DLSS across all its modes – whether played in handheld or docked – and it exhibits performance and quality differences based on the mode selected.

The studio has clarified the functionality of the ‘performance’ and ‘quality’ settings in the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. In docked mode, gamers can opt for 30 frames per second (FPS) at higher visual quality in the ‘quality’ setting, or they can choose a smoother 40 FPS gameplay with the ‘performance’ mode. Regardless of the chosen setting, both will run at a resolution of 1080p.

Instead of fixed resolution settings, the handheld mode adapts by scaling resolutions dynamically. This ensures a consistent frame rate of 30 FPS in quality setting and 40 FPS in performance setting. In quality mode, it attempts to sustain 1080p resolution, while performance mode may lower to 720p temporarily to manage steady frame rates when necessary.

As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled about the reveal of my personal favorite, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 during their recent major Direct event. Last week, a sneak peek video emerged, offering a glimpse into the game’s extensive settings and menus, and more importantly, hinting that the Switch 2 version might even outshine the visuals on the Steam Deck.

In the video it’s shown that players can adjust various visual settings, such as Chromatic Aberration, Depth of Field, and Motion Blur, along with others. Additionally, the game was demonstrated running in Performance mode with HDR10 activated, providing a playable frame rate of 40 FPS.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that CD Projekt RED has previously hinted at a range of features tailored specifically for the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077. These include gyroscopic controls and touch screen functionality, enabling actions like tapping, swiping, and pinching for more efficient inventory management, making my gaming experience even smoother on-the-go!

CD Projekt Red plans to introduce “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition” as a launch title for the Switch 2, but has remained silent about whether “The Witcher 3” will join Nintendo’s upcoming console. However, the studio has expressed their full commitment towards bringing “Cyberpunk 2077” to the console at this point in time.

Right now, you can play “Cyberpunk 2077” on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. For additional information, feel free to read our review of the original game, along with that of its “Phantom Liberty” expansion pack.
