Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Returns With New Summer Promo

As a fan who lived through the golden age of anime and video games, I must say that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has truly taken me back to my roots. The series, with its blend of high-octane action, gripping storytelling, and stunning visuals from Studio Trigger, has been a breath of fresh air in the world of adaptations.

The animated series, “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” has made a splash once more this summer with stunning new character designs. Debuting on Netflix globally in 2022, this show was one of the most buzzed-about new releases that year. Leveraging its connection to the already highly successful video game, “Cyberpunk 2077,” it wasn’t just the world of the series that captured attention, but also the fresh narrative penned by Studio Trigger, which raised the stakes in a way only anime can. The show was so popular that it seemed to spark a resurgence in video game adaptations, a trend that has continued with success after success in the years since.

The show “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” concluded without much hope for further episodes since it seemed conclusive, but fans are excited to see the characters reappear somehow. However, a new anime project might not bring them back, but Studio Trigger is keeping them alive in different forms. Recently, they released unique bathing suit artwork of David, Lucy, and Rebecca for summer, which you can view below.

What Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?

If you’re interested in watching the anime yourself, you can now stream “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” on Netflix. This series is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi with Hiromi Wakabayashi serving as the creative director, and Yoh Yoshinari handling character design at Studio Trigger. According to Netflix, the series follows a street kid who’s trying to survive in the technologically advanced and body modification-focused city of Night City in the future. With nothing left to lose, he survives by becoming an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.

In 2022, when Cyberpunk: Edgerunners first premiered, egmr.ru’s Evan Valentine expressed his appreciation for the anime and made some observations in our review (which you can read in full here). He pointed out that the series doesn’t shy away from its extreme violence, and when characters meet their grisly ends, it makes those moments even more impactful because we have grown attached to them over the course of the ten episodes. Trigger’s animation style, which is smooth, dynamic, and brimming with energy, also plays a significant role in keeping viewers glued to the screen, lest they miss any animation frames along the way.
