Dakota Johnson Jokes She’s “Always Psyched” to Film Sex Scenes

Dakota Johnson isn’t blushing 50 shades of red over intimacy.

The Materialist actress playfully implied that she doesn’t always thoroughly prepare before filming intimate scenes, since she’s grown more at ease with such performances.

During her June 10 interview on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast, Dakota humorously remarked, “I don’t necessarily have to,” implying a readiness for intimacy. In reality, she has a unique method of handling such situations. She delves into the history of her characters, which allows her to understand how they might approach sex within the movie’s storyline.

She explained, “The nature of the character and how they should appear to the viewers is crucial. Is she a glamorous idol, a homemaker, lonely, fearful, or traditional? All these aspects are important for developing the character.

Despite having her unique approach, the actress from Suspiria also attributed her ease in handling such scenes to her mother, Melanie Griffith, who provided a secure environment where she felt comfortable discussing sex during her upbringing.

Dakota shared that his mom instilled in him a strong sense of pride and love for his body from an early age. He expressed his deep appreciation for this upbringing, particularly in his career, as he can authentically use his body in his work. He also mentioned that the way she discussed sexuality with him was open and emphasized its importance and preciousness. (Don Johnson is Dakota’s father, who is an actor.)

After that, Dakota pondered back on the last intimate scene she shot “several months prior,” remarking that it was the “initial occasion” where she collaborated with an intimacy coordinator. Although she had a wonderful encounter with the coordinator, she suddenly realized that throughout her portrayal of Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, there wasn’t a professional on set to assist with her most intimate scenes.

She mentioned that there were no intimacy supervisors initially, and then went on to discuss the difficulties encountered during the making of the first film, which was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. She expressed that the process was quite tough, but felt the final product was as good as it could be. However, she signed up for a script that ultimately differed from what they eventually filmed.

And with those changes being out of her control, the Fifty Shades Freed star toughed it out.

In my role as a lifestyle guide, I find myself reflecting on an experience that took an unexpected turn. At the time, I was committed to a project, had signed a deal with another artist, and then everything shifted. It happened when I was just 24 years old, during filming. Looking back, I feel nothing but pride for the courage I demonstrated throughout that journey.

In a memorable instance on television, Dakota Johnson publicly expressed disappointment that Ellen DeGeneres did not attend her 30th birthday celebration.

On an episode of her self-titled talk show in 2019, when the comedian suggested that she hadn’t been invited somewhere, Dakota replied with a touch of wit, “Contrary to what you implied, Ellen, that wasn’t actually the case.

The actress then highlighted that Ellen had criticized her severely during their previous appearance on the program for not receiving an invitation. Consequently, Dakota ensured she was added to the guest list for this occasion to avoid a repeat of such an incident.

“I didn’t even know you liked me,” Dakota told Ellen. “I did invite you, but you didn’t come.”

In response to being queried about the widely-discussed Ellen interview that took place four years prior, Dakota expressed to L’Officiel, “It continues to linger in my mind.

Dakota opened up quite frankly about her time working on the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ series many years later, disclosing that the author, E.L. James, held significant creative authority and insisted on specific events taking place.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2022, she expressed that certain aspects of the books were challenging to adapt into a movie format. Specifically, the inner monologues, which at times were overly sentimental, proved difficult. She elaborated on the writer’s frequent conflicts with the studio and director, describing the entire process as chaotic and tumultuous.

To put it simply, Dakota thinks that people wouldn’t have agreed to work on the project if they had realized from the start what it would eventually turn out to be.

As she noted, “It would’ve been like, ‘Oh, this is psychotic.'”

E.L. has not publicly responded to Dakota’s comments.

It turned out surprising that Dakota’s casual remark about limes would become such a sensation, but that’s exactly what occurred following her 2020 home tour with Architectural Digest. In the procession of showcasing her kitchen, she enthusiastically mentioned a bowl of limes, expressing her fondness for them: “I adore limes! I love them so dearly. They’re fantastic, and I enjoy displaying them like this in my home.

However, Dakota later admitted that it was all “set dressing.”

Back in 2021, when I graced The Tonight Show stage, I couldn’t help but share a little secret about myself. You see, I’ve got this thing with limes – I’m allergic to them! So, whenever I said I loved them or used them in recipes, I was actually telling a white lie. Sorry for any confusion that might have caused, folks!

In November 2023, the initial trailer for Madame Web was released, sparking intrigue on the internet due to Dakota’s somber recitation of the line: “He was in the Amazon with my mother when she was studying spiders just before she passed away.

Despite swiftly spreading as an internet meme, it didn’t catch Dakota’s interest. This lack of attention led to another moment worthy of being a meme when she later confessed her puzzlement about its widespread popularity.

She calmly inquired from the interviewer, who brought up the meme, as to why it had become so popular. “To be honest, I don’t understand its context.

Dakota added of her viral line, “That seems like a basic storyline to me.”

In a 2024 interview with Today, Dakota (the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson) expressed her thoughts on the nepo baby debate in Hollywood, stating, “I initially found it quite irritating and tedious.

During a chat with Andrew Garfield, Dakota confessed that on several occasions at Hollywood gatherings, she has given away her hair extensions to other party attendees.

In a chat with Vanity Fair, she casually mentioned, “At parties, I might end up being a bit tipsy and then I’d playfully stick them inside gentlemen’s jacket pockets. They can be quite bothersome, so I’d simply find a suitable spot to hide them.

Above all else, Dakota (understandably) puts sleep as “my number one priority in life.”

She shared with WSJ. Magazine in December 2023 that she doesn’t work well unless she gets at least 10 hours of sleep. In fact, she can comfortably stay awake for up to 14 hours.

In a 2017 video titled the same, it’s clear that Dakota Johnson can accommodate quite a bit through her distinctive gap teeth.

Among the objects included a toothpick, a credit card and $1100 in cash.

“That’s my only skill,” she quipped in the clip, adding, “Dad, are you watching this?”
