Today, there have been rumors circulating online about a subsequent report regarding the cancellations of last week’s PlayStation Studios projects, suggesting that the teams behind these canceled games, specifically Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio, were informed of the cancellations simultaneously with the public.
If accurate, the murmurs certainly depicted a quite incriminating image of PlayStation leadership; however, it seems that both teams were aware of the cancelations prior to the public disclosure.
According to Jason Schreier, who initially reported the news, the rumor that’s been circulating on Reddit lately is false. He stated on Bluesky that prior to his article being published last week, employees within the organization had already been informed about it.
The false report originated during Jeff Grubb’s recent episode of Game Mess Mornings, which was later refuted by VGC. In this broadcast, Grubb mentioned that both studios discovered about the cancellations simultaneously, just like the general public.
Previously, upon hearing the latest developments, we described PlayStation’s aggressive live service strategy as a “catastrophe of extraordinary magnitude.” If the rumors had been validated, it would have made the predicament all the more unfavorable.
After everything has calmed down, what are your thoughts on PlayStation’s continuing live service drama? You can share your perspective in the comments section below, and remember, things could always be more challenging.
