Julianne Hough is reflecting on a scary experience.
As she commemorated her 20-year milestone on “Dancing with the Stars“, the star from “Footloose” shared some ups and downs experienced during her time on the ABC show, including a severe health crisis.
18 years old and fresh from Utah, I embarked on this journey when I joined the show, back in June. With just $2000 to my name after years of training in London, I stepped into this new world with a heart full of uncertainty about what lay ahead. Little did I know… I’d win my first two seasons! And then there was that unforgettable moment when a cyst burst live on TV – yes, you read that right!
A cyst may burst unexpectedly, often causing intense, stabbing pain in the lower belly area, nausea, bloating, or sometimes light vaginal bleeding – as described by Johns Hopkins Medicine.
However, Julianne found the experience less than pleasant, but she admitted that both the positive and negative instances during her time on Dancing With the Stars have collectively made the show a truly unforgettable one for her.
The experience of being a part of DWTS, as she put it, has been an extraordinary, unexpected, and heartfelt journey that sets it apart. What makes it unique is not just the dancing, but the courage it takes to step out in public and be vulnerable on such a global stage while still being supported and nurtured. Each of us has been touched by this experience.
In simpler terms, Julianne has become the most recent celebrity to share about the discomfort associated with having a cyst. On the other hand, Hailey Bieber has also shared her personal struggles related to these issues.
In my own experience, I’m currently battling not one but two ovarian cysts – a situation I deeply empathize with if you’re going through the same struggle!
In recent times, Bindi Irwin had a medical procedure done to treat her own cysts, which was due to her being diagnosed with endometriosis.
In an episode of the A Life of Greatness podcast last February, Bindi described a large, chocolate-like growth that had attached her ovary to her side. She was experiencing excruciating pain and, surprisingly, it didn’t appear on scans. It seemed to be in the ideal location, causing damage to the inside of her ovary.

Back in April 2025, a former star of “Beverly Hills, 90210” shared that he was on the road to recovery following an appendix surgery, as it had almost ruptured.
A week ago, Brian mentioned in an Instagram post that he began experiencing discomfort in his abdomen. This eventually led him to visit the emergency room where it was discovered that his appendix was about to rupture, but not quite yet.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”
Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered following a collision with a cement truck at age 11 continue to impact him up until now.
In a 2025 episode of the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast, Devine expressed that it had been an extremely difficult ordeal for him, explaining that he has been experiencing spasms throughout his body. He shared that doctors had informed him earlier this year that his condition was grave and he was essentially facing death.
He mentioned that pain appears intermittently, expressing, “There are quite a few quirks and anomalies in my body.
Previously on Bachelor Nation, the former contestant revealed that he had to visit the hospital because of severe back pain, which became unbearable while he was traveling in an RV with a companion. He was forced to crawl on all fours due to the intensity of the discomfort.
In the here and now, a strange sensation, akin to pins and needles, persists from the knees down – utterly bizarre, I must say. To give you an idea of the contrast, just a few short weeks ago, I was pushing 295 pounds in a squat. Today, even attempting a single-legged squat leaves me teetering precariously, as if I’ve suffered some unexpected neurological incident. It’s quite perplexing, to say the least.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”
In December 2024, a player in the AHL had his skin sewn up with 25 stitches after being accidentally injured by another player’s skate during a game. Later, when this player was fully healed, Tom Fitzgerald, the general manager of the New Jersey Devils (his father), expressed his gratitude to ESPN, saying, “We consider ourselves fortunate. I wouldn’t wish that experience on any parent.
Gina Kirschenheiter from “Real Housewives of Orange County” revealed that her former spouse, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack back in March 2025; fortunately, he managed to pull through this challenging situation.
In March 2025, during a New York Knicks basketball match, the famous actor from 30 Rock experienced a health emergency, causing him to be taken away from Madison Square Garden in a stretcher.
On the next day, the comedian posted an update on social media stating that it was a case of food poisoning and he was recovering well.
Back in February 2025, I found myself sharing an unexpected experience – being shot in the face during a clay pigeon shooting excursion we organized to celebrate my wonderful husband, Brendan Rooney’s, birthday.
In her Instagram post, she stated that there was another group with us, who carelessly discharged their firearm in a dangerous manner, causing it to strike me in the face. Almost instantly, @thebrendanrooney responded, evaluated my condition, and hurried me to the hospital. I sustained injuries in five different spots; one of them was just a narrow miss, being less than an inch away from striking my right eye directly.
The former star of “Kim Possible” added, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye, and it’s not safe to extract it surgically right now. My doctors are keeping a close eye on me, and I can see fine for now.
As a grateful survivor, I cannot express enough my deep affection for my daughters, husband, loved ones, and friends. A chilling moment made me realize that life can vanish as swiftly as it appears – a stark reminder to cherish each embrace with those around you. Seize every opportunity to hug the people in your life; remember, life’s unpredictable nature might alter its course in the blink of an eye.
Despite the occasional harshness of the online world, Amy Schumer is grateful that it provided her with valuable insights in this particular instance. In a 2025 episode of Call Her Daddy, she recounted, “The internet was quite critical after my press rounds, and I thought, ‘Everyone, take it easy.’ But then medical professionals started commenting, saying they believed something was amiss based on my unusual appearance.”
Amy, who creates the show Life & Beth, was surprised to find herself being scrutinized by doctors. When these medical professionals suggested she might have Cushing syndrome due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections, she realized, “Wait, I’ve been receiving steroid injections for my scars.”
“I’ve had a breast reduction and a C-section, among other procedures,” Amy explained. “So, I was getting these steroid injections. This eventually led to my developing Cushing syndrome, a condition I wouldn’t have known about if not for the internet’s harsh critique.”
Now, Amy is simply relieved to know she’s healthy. As she wrote in her February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, “Learning that the type of Cushing I have will naturally resolve itself and that I’m otherwise healthy was the best news I could have received.
Hailey Bieber faced a terrifying ordeal in March 2022 when she experienced symptoms similar to a stroke during breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. As she tried to respond, she found herself unable to speak, and her face began to droop on one side. Despite the symptoms stopping shortly afterward, Hailey was rushed to the hospital for tests. It was discovered that she had suffered a small clot in her brain, known as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further investigation revealed that Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO), through which the blood clot had traveled, escaped into her heart, and eventually reached her brain. After undergoing a successful PFO closure procedure, she reported feeling well again.
In the same year that Hailey underwent a health crisis, Justin Bieber also faced one of his own. Specifically, in June 2022, Justin was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition affecting his facial nerves which led to temporary paralysis and forced him to halt the rest of his Justice World Tour. As he explained in an Instagram video, this condition attacked the nerve in his ear and caused paralysis on one side of his face. “You can see that this eye isn’t blinking, I can’t smile on this side of my face, this nostril won’t move – so there’s full paralysis on this side,” he said. He further mentioned that it had become increasingly difficult for him to eat, but eventually, the paralysis subsided. Hailey shared on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America that Justin was doing well and recovering, expressing her relief that he was fine despite the scary and unexpected situation.
Initially, Jamie Foxx preferred not to disclose the details of his hospitalization in April 2023. However, later on, during his 2024 Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…”, he shared his experience. One day in Atlanta, he complained of a severe headache and asked for an aspirin. Before he could get it, he fainted and lost consciousness for about twenty days.
A doctor initially administered him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister Deidra Dixon became concerned and drove him to another hospital. There, they discovered that he had suffered a brain bleed which led to a stroke. After undergoing surgery on the 20th day, Foxx woke up in a wheelchair on May 4 and was unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.
“I want to express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “as I truly needed them all.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this:
After filming intense battle scenes on Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke penned an essay for The New Yorker in 2019 titled “A Battle for My Life.” In her own words, she described an incident at the gym where a severe headache led to vomiting profusely. The pain, she explained, was intensifying and she sensed that her brain was injured.
She was rushed to the hospital for a brain scan, and the diagnosis was grim: subarachnoid hemorrhage, a potentially fatal type of stroke caused by bleeding in the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery.
The actress underwent immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, describing the pain as unbearable. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia and was speaking nonsensically. A week later, the aphasia subsided, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month.
However, in a 2013 brain scan, a growth was found to have doubled in size, requiring another surgery. She recalled waking up from the procedure in immense pain as it had failed. The doctors informed her that her chances of survival were precarious and needed to operate again, this time through her skull.
Thankfully, Emilia is now fully recovered and is at 100%.
Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, expresses her gratitude towards her family after going through a severe stroke in January 2024.
When she informed them about the stroke and shared a picture with them, they promptly came to her aid. As she faced additional health issues, her hospital stay was prolonged beyond initial expectations.
“I texted them that I had just suffered a stroke and sent them a photo,” she explained to TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024. “Everyone came to my rescue.”
Because of complications from lupus, her kidneys started failing. She mentioned, “I could have been discharged after the stroke, but my lupus wasn’t doing well. My kidneys were failing. There was a lot happening.”
Now, Cori is recovering.
“I’m doing fine now,” she stated. “I just needed to regain some motor skills, but otherwise, I was okay.
Shailene Woodley’s 20s were a challenging period for her health-wise. She experienced issues such as losing hearing, struggling to walk without needing long periods of rest, and stomach problems with almost every food she consumed. Her condition was complex, with different doctors providing various diagnoses.
To find answers, Shailene, who has a background in holistic medicine and herbalism, sought help from both conventional medical professionals and independent healers. This quest for healing took over a decade. During this time, her physical discomfort led to other issues such as fear of food, body dysmorphia, confusion about identity, and feeling unsafe in her own skin.
After addressing both her physical and mental health issues, Shailene is now in good health. She stated, “It was a journey that ultimately resolved physically, and I am very healthy now.
