Dandadan Is the Next Jujutsu Kaisen According to One Anime Veteran

As a seasoned gamer and anime enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the anticipation for this fall’s anime lineup is palpable, but none more so than the upcoming adaptation of DandaDan. Having followed the manga’s progression from its inception, I can confidently say that Okarun and Momo have captured the hearts of many, much like how Goku and Bulma did back in my day.

Among the numerous returning and fresh anime premieres this coming fall season, DandaDan aspires to make a significant impact. Originating from the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, this series has surpassed 160 chapters in its run. With Science SARU, known for hits like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Devilman Crybaby, taking on the adaptation of the manga, characters Okarun and Momo are quickly gaining popularity. In a recent interview with an executive at MBS TV, a Japanese broadcast network known for airing popular anime, industry insiders are already expressing their admiration for the series before its debut.

If you haven’t heard about “DandaDan”, this anime series stands out from others in the genre. The main character, Okarun, is a teenage boy with an unusual fascination for aliens and unknown objects. His friend, Momo, on the other hand, has a keen interest in the supernatural. An unexpected event occurs when Okarun meets a spectral woman called “Turbo Granny”, who gives him a curse that endows him with supernatural abilities but also poses a danger to him. As for Momo, she is abducted by eerie aliens and develops her psychic abilities, which are primarily used to manage Okarun’s powers.

Is DandaDan The Next Jujutsu Kaisen?

In a recent interview with MBS TV’s director of the General Programming Department, Shinichi Tabuchi, praised DandaDan’s upcoming anime adaptation. On top of this Tabuchi stated that not only would Okarun and Momo’s tale follow in the footsteps of Jujutsu Kaisen but it would also “spread” like Haikyu and Demon Slayer, “It’s an anime that’s interesting even for old guys like us, about facing unexpected events while accepting each other’s diversity. I’m sure it will spread like Jujutsu Kaisen, Haikyu, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba“.

How To Watch DandaDan?

On October 3rd, the debut episode of “DandaDan” is scheduled to air, with popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Hulu planning to broadcast this supernatural shonen series. Additionally, the initial three episodes were previously screened in cinemas as part of the release of “DandaDan: The First Encounter“. This special compilation film features behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew, offering fans a more intimate insight into the creation process of this eagerly awaited anime.

Fortunately, individuals who prefer to enjoy the anime in English Dub will be delighted to know that the series will be available simultaneously (simulcast). The current English voice cast includes Abby Trott portraying Momo, A.J. Beckles voicing Okarun, Kari Wahlgren as Seiko, Lisa Reimold as Aira, Aleks Le as JiJi, Barbara Goodson as Turbo Granny, and Den Diskin as Serpoian.

DandaDan: Shonen Jump’s Next Big Thing

Fans of shonen news may already know that some prominent series, such as My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer, are either wrapping up or nearing their conclusion, with the tales of Deku and Tanjiro reaching their final destinations. As for Jujutsu Kaisen, creator Gege Akutami has announced that there’s only one chapter left in the supernatural shonen series. However, a cryptic message to fans hinting at the continuation of the story leaves fans speculating if there are more adventures ahead for Yuji and his team.

Despite no official confirmation about a second season for DandaDan, the prospects seem optimistic for Momo and Okarun. Given that the original manga has numerous chapters, it suggests an abundance of content if Science SARU decides to extend the anime across multiple seasons in the future.
