In the series Dandadan, we meet Momo Ayase, a teenage girl who harbors a deep fascination for the veteran actor and singer Ken Takakura, renowned for his tough and stoic roles in numerous projects. Typically, she’s attracted to this kind of mature man, but her romantic luck hasn’t been great as most boys her age are still immature. However, things take an unexpected turn with “Occult-kun,” a fellow student who’s often bullied for his fascination with aliens and strange occurrences.
Dandadan: Momo Meets Occult-kun
In Episode 1 of Dandadan, Momo extends a helping hand to a shy boy when she protects him from bullies. Despite his reserved nature, he becomes visibly excited when he suspects Momo shares his enthusiasm for unidentified anomalous phenomena. However, their bond is strained when Momo confesses her belief in ghosts, which the boy immediately dismisses as a ludicrous topic. In quick succession, they encounter peril: “Occult-kun” is chased by a vengeful ghost intent on nibbling his personal areas, while Momo is abducted by extraterrestrials eager to procreate with her for the survival of their species. However, these harrowing experiences serve as catalysts for an even stronger bond between them. As they navigate these strange powers bestowed upon them, they uncover latent abilities that can only be unlocked through their connections with these mystical forces.
Dandadan: Who Is Ken Takakura?
After being ensnared by a malicious spirit’s curse, Occult-kun valiantly battles on to rescue Momo from extraterrestrial captors. Despite his inability to provide tangible aid, witnessing his unyielding struggle triggers a profound awakening within Momo, unlocking her dormant spiritual talents she acquired from her grandmother. This shared experience deepens their bond, and eventually, Momo comes to terms with the fact that she may harbor feelings for this boy beyond friendship. The revelation at the end of the episode that his true identity is Ken Takakura only serves to further complicate these burgeoning emotions.
