Science SARU, known for creating exceptional and distinctive anime, seems to be continuing this trend with their latest venture. Following the success of 2024’s hit series, “Dandadan“, Science SARU has unveiled a sneak peek of their upcoming production – a trailer and poster for their next series. The studio is aiming to expand its impressive collection (already housing titles like “Tatami Time Machine Blues“, “The Heike Story“, “Ping-Pong The Animation“, and “Devilman Crybaby“) with an adaptation of the popular historical manga, “A Witch’s Life in Mongol“.
The renowned manga author known as Tomato Soup is having his historical series rebranded by Studio Science SARU to “Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia“. An initial teaser and promotional material have been unveiled through an official statement. Similar to other productions from Studio Science SARU, “A Witch in Mongolia” appears to be a distinctively original anime series.
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Anime Adaptation Announced
2021 saw the online debut of my all-time favorite manga, “A Witch’s Life in Mongol,” through Akita Shoten’s Souffle platform. I can’t get enough of Tomato Soup’s captivating illustrations, and it seems that Science SARU is doing an exceptional job bringing them to life in the upcoming anime! Japan will be able to catch this masterpiece on TV Asahi. As for us enthusiasts overseas, we’re eagerly awaiting news about a US streaming partner.
The opening scene presents the protagonist of “Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia,” Sitara (Fatima), a former slave under the Mongolian Empire. She collaborates with one of the Emperor’s wives, Töregene, to undermine the vast empire they rule. The teaser trailer features these words, “It took everything from me… I must never forgive.” However, as time passes, she seems to be on the verge of forgiveness… even in this strange land. Are you ready to hear my tale?
To mark the announcement of the anime adaptation, TV Asahi posted a fresh artwork by Tomato Soup on their social media platforms. The post read, “A congratulatory artwork has been sent over by the original creator.” In the illustration, Sitrara, Töregene, and a lamb were depicted, accompanied by the words, “Celebrating the anime adaptation by Science SARU” in bold letters. You can view it below…
Tomato Soup Shares a Special Message to Fans
Together with the release of the trailer, poster, and official announcement for the upcoming anime, renowned author Tomato Soup (what a creative name!) extended a heartfelt message to fans, expressing his excitement about Science SARU’s new anime project. “More than a decade ago, before I even started illustrating ‘A Witch’s Life in Mongolia,’ I found myself captivated by the history of the Mongolian Empire,” he reminisced. “I often pondered, ‘Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were an anime like this?’ This thought sparked my imagination: If such an anime existed, what types of characters would be featured? What kind of narrative would unfold?
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia” is a court drama set in 13th-century Mongolia. It centers around Sitara (Fatima), previously a slave girl under the Mongolian Empire, who crosses paths with Töregene, the 6th wife of the Mongolian Emperor – who also has complex emotions towards the Empire. Their alliance starts to challenge the very core of the empire.
