As a long-time fan of British television and particularly EastEnders, I must admit that I was initially thrilled when Danny Dyer hinted at returning to Walford during the National Television Awards 2024. The prospect of Mick Carter’s return had me on the edge of my seat, eagerly waiting for any updates. However, upon further reflection and after hearing Danny’s explanation about the joke that went awry, I can’t help but chuckle at the whole situation.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’d like to share some insights about the buzz surrounding Danny Dyer’s potential return to EastEnders. The speculation intensified after an amusing skit during this year’s National Television Awards 2024.
In a previous turn of events, the actor and his fellow performer from “Rivals,” Katherine Parkinson, bestowed the honor for Best New Drama. Just before this moment, he expressed heartfelt sentiments towards his past coworkers on the BBC soap opera, expressing that he dearly missed them.
He went on to say “bring Mick back!” – referring to his soap character, who had a seemingly fatal exit from the programme – which some fans interpreted as a genuine tease of plans to come.
It seems the actor clarified that his statement about his co-star not knowing who Mick is was just a jest, implying that Parkinson is unaware of who Mick actually is.
Dyer started off by saying that one unique aspect of the NTAs is that you don’t receive a script. He added jokingly that he missed his friends from EastEnders, but the humor was in him asking for Mick to return, to which Katherine responded, “Who?
“That was the joke. I think some people chuckled.”
Parkinson interjected: “I was trying to cut him down, not the show. But he’s too popular.”
Dyer confessed that he underestimated how strongly fans would respond negatively to his remark, both in person and at home viewers. However, he didn’t completely rule out the chance of rejoining EastEnders.
He stated: “It’s not my responsibility to decide; I simply propose ideas and wait for the outcome. With our potential work on the second season of Rivals, it could be that I manage to juggle both, whether it’s Walford or Rivals.
“Maybe Mick turns out with a moustache back in Walford because he’s doing Rivals – and a fringe.”
Earlier, Dyer expressed his belief that his EastEnders character is deceased due to a thrilling departure during the 2022 Christmas special, in which it appeared he had drowned; however, as of now, no body has been discovered.
The actor has recently stated that the success of his following ventures have confirmed for him that he had taken the correct path by departing from EastEnders, and they have also proved wrong those who questioned whether he could maintain a career beyond the soap opera.
“People said, ‘Oh he’ll be back, he won’t get more work’,” he told TopMob. “How wrong were they?”
On Friday, 18th October 2024, you’ll be able to stream the movie “Rivals” on Disney Plus. You can subscribe to Disney Plus right now for just £7.99 per month or £79.90 annually.
