Daredevil: Born Again Could Unveil Shocking Identity Twist from Iconic Comics!

As a devoted movie critic, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the return of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the upcoming Disney+ series, “Daredevil: Born Again.” If a popular fan theory on the r/Daredevil subreddit holds true, this new adaptation could delve into a pivotal storyline from the comics.

The theory suggests that the plot of “Born Again” will revolve around Matt Murdock’s secret identity as Daredevil being exposed to the people of New York City. This theory is strengthened by a user’s reference to the comic book story “Out,” from Daredevil Vol. 2 #32, published in 2002. The image they posted appears to be a subtle hint at this potential adaptation.

Intriguingly, the story “Out” centers around Matt Murdock’s struggle to keep his double life hidden as both a lawyer and a vigilante, which could make for a gripping narrative in the new series. If true, fans are in for an exciting ride as they witness the repercussions of Daredevil’s identity being revealed.

In the “Out” storyline from the Daredevil comic series, I find myself part of an FBI investigation into the murder of Richard Fisk, the Kingpin’s son. This probe gradually unravels the mystery surrounding Daredevil’s true identity, a secret order was given to keep under wraps. Yet, despite this, the information seeps out and by the climax of the issue, my law partner, Foggy Nelson, is stunned to find the New York Daily Globe’s front page blaring “The Pulp Hero of Hell’s Kitchen Is a Blind Lawyer,” with side-by-side images of myself and Daredevil. Given how the series Born Again has begun in its first two episodes, adapting the “Out” story could very well be an appropriate path for the show to follow.

Initially, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) starts “Born Again” fully cognizant that Matt is Daredevil, while Matt is equally aware of Vanessa Fisk’s (Ayelet Zurer) role in the murder of FBI Agent Ray Nadeem (Jay Ali). At the end of season 3 of “Daredevil”, Daredevil and Kingpin agreed on a truce to protect their respective secrets, as well as sparing Karen Page and Foggy Nelson from retribution, right before Fisk was sent to prison. In the diner encounter in “Born Again”, Matt and Fisk’s tense reunion is filled with subtle threats and an implied future confrontation, given that Fisk runs for (and eventually wins) the office of New York City mayor.

In the initial scene of “Born Again,” Foggy’s gruesome murder at the hands of Bullseye sets Matt’s mind ablaze with vengeance. Suspecting that either Fisk or Vanessa might have hired Bullseye, possibly after reconciling their deadly rift from “Daredevil” season 3, to target Matt, Karen, and Foggy, Matt is on high alert. The mayor of New York City, Fisk, certainly feels the pressure of Matt’s vigilant gaze, and with the knowledge of Daredevil’s true identity, he may choose to violate his promise to Matt in order to eliminate his greatest foe. If “Daredevil: Born Again” follows the storyline of “Out,” it could serve a strategic purpose by bringing back Matt’s former Defender allies from the Marvel-Netflix era, such as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). Particularly, Iron Fist might play a crucial role in restoring Matt’s hidden identity in “Out.

Even though Matt tries to refute that he is Daredevil, he ends up in prison. However, his ally Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist, steps in and impersonates Daredevil until Matt’s innocence is proven. If the series “Born Again” were to continue, it could be an excellent opportunity to introduce Danny Rand wearing the Daredevil mask to free Matt from prison. This move would serve two purposes: first, it would provide “Daredevil: Born Again” with a storyline based on comics, and second, it could act as a secret audition for the long-awaited (and essential) reappearance of the other Defenders.

In contrast to its name, “Daredevil: Born Again” is primarily a thematic representation of Daredevil making a comeback as the main character in his own series, rather than an adaptation of Frank Miller’s eponymous comic book story which was previously used for season 3. It’s worth noting that The Man Without Fear will likely face another intense battle with his arch-nemesis, and since the Kingpin is both New York’s mayor and one of the few aware of Daredevil’s secret identity, they could both become tools against Matt Murdock. If this is the case, “Daredevil: Born Again” may borrow some intriguing plot points from the “Out” storyline of Daredevil, and it might also provide an opportunity for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to reunite with Daredevil and potentially restart their individual series.

The initial two episodes of the series “Daredevil: Reborn” are now streaming on Disney+, with fresh episodes dropping every Tuesday.
