Daredevil: Born Again – Dark, Brutal, and Violent as Hell!

After six years since Netflix ended Marvel’s Daredevil following three seasons, fans rejoice as the character returns with renewed intensity in Daredevil: Born Again. The Man Without Fear made a striking appearance on the red carpet of the New York premiere for this Marvel television series on Monday night. Lucky viewers at the event got an early peek at the first two episodes of the season, set to release on Disney+ on March 4th.

In this new series that Kevin Feige is producing, Matt Murdock, who’s a blind lawyer played by Charlie Cox, and Wilson Fisk, now the Mayor of New York City portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio, are brought back together. This happens years after their previous encounter in the final season of Marvel’s Daredevil. During that time, Fisk struck a deal with the Devil – to keep Murdock’s identity hidden, or else he would lose his beloved Vanessa (played by Ayelet Zurer).

After their appearances in the MCU, Daredevil returns in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, 2022’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and 2024’s Echo, and Kingpin in 2021’s Hawkeye and Echo. The revival of Marvel’s Daredevil finds Matt Murdock focusing on justice through his thriving law practice, rather than as the horn-headed avenger known as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. (A line has been crossed, according to a trailer quote, which explains why the guilt-ridden Catholic lawyer has given up vigilantism.)

In this series, Cox and D’Onofrio are joined by familiar faces like Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. The cast also features Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, and Kamar de los Reyes portraying the vigilante Hector Ayala/White Tiger. Lou Taylor Pucci has been added to the cast, possibly playing the character Muse, a serial killer artist, while Tony Dalton reprises his role from Hawkeye as Jack Duquesne.

Since the social ban has been lifted, the initial responses to the intense, rated-MA Marvel TV series have made a big impact on social media, much like a powerful fight sequence in a hallway. Here are some of the reactions you can check out:

1. Replaced “With the social embargo lifted” with “Since the social ban has been lifted.” This makes the sentence easier to understand by using more common phrasing (e.g., “lifted” instead of “has been removed”).
” instead of “Read them below.” This makes the sentence easier to read by providing a clearer introduction to the following content.

Chris Killian (@ChrisKillian): The opening episodes of #DaredevilBornAgain introduce a fresh, fashionable vitality to Daredevil that’s less earthbound than the Netflix series, yet it shares the dark, comic-booky atmosphere I adore. Buckle up and beware of spoilers! (1/2)

My main complaint lies in some of the CGI appearing hastily done, but the narrative and overall ambiance have won me over. This new Daredevil portrayal seems far more like a superhero than its Netflix counterpart, and it’s already likely to be my top Marvel Disney+ show in a while. (2/2)

Daredevil Updates (@DDUpdates): This new show manages to retain what made the initial series unique while still exploring uncharted territories. The atmosphere and raw intensity are reminiscent of the original production, yet the storytelling doesn’t stray too far from its roots. The action sequences seem more polished and dynamic compared to the Netflix series.

Erik Davis (@ErikDavis) says: Marvel’s #DaredevilBornAgain gets off to a fiery start! In my opinion, it has one of the strongest beginnings among Marvel Studios TV shows so far – the first two episodes are exceptional, creating a narrative that combines courtroom drama and intense combat. The opening fight scene in episode 1 is particularly impressive, with an unexpected conclusion that sets the tone for the series. There’s a hint of #ThePenguin in the chaos-filled city and the ambitious gangster trying to seize control, but the fights in Daredevil are already exceptionally dynamic. This show could feature some of the finest brawls we’ve seen from the MCU. I’m immediately captivated and eagerly anticipating where it will lead next.

According to Big Screen Leaks (@bigscreenleaks), the first two episodes of #DaredevilBornAgain have delivered an exhilarating rush not felt from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in quite some time. The return to this universe feels wonderful and it’s evident that everyone involved cherishes the Netflix series. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio slip seamlessly back into their roles, while Michael Gandolfini stands out as a captivating performer. The action is intense and skillfully orchestrated from start to finish, making for an impressive spectacle. This is undoubtedly a significant triumph for Marvel Studios, and the arrival of Season 2 can’t come quickly enough! The show’s premiere does an effective job of reacquainting us with this world before launching into this new chapter flawlessly, leaving me eagerly anticipating more immediately!

Brandon Norwood (@bjntweets): Watched the initial two episodes of DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN, and it doesn’t hold back. Some daring decisions are made in the first 10 minutes that I hope pay off, as if not… well, that could be tough to swallow. It would be great to see more grown-up, street-level narratives from Marvel.

Sean O’Connell (@Sean_Oconnell): Good gracious, Kitchen of Heaven! The opening sequence in #DaredevilBornAgain is prolonged and punishing, suggesting it’s every bit as intense as its Netflix days. Subsequent episodes intricately weave a tale involving police, vigilantes, and remorse, making DEVIL’S REIGN a useful catch-up. Started off exceptionally well!

POC Culture (@POCculture): I’ve watched 2 episodes of #DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN! It’s a fantastic fusion of past and present. It merges the raw toughness of the original series with the cinematic style of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thrilling fight scenes paired with character growth that sets Daredevil apart, making it truly special. #DaredevilBornAgain

The raw edge from the original storyline meets the slick production style of the Marvel Universe. Or:
POC Culture (@POCculture): I’ve checked out 2 episodes of the revamped #DAREDEVIL show, #DaredevilBornAgain! It’s a terrific fusion of classic and modern elements. The gritty realism from the original tale intertwines with the visual flair of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Intense fight sequences alongside character progression that sets Daredevil apart, making it an engaging series to follow. #DaredevilBornAgain

Anthony Gagliardi (@AJGaliardi): #DaredevilReborn is BRUTAL, UNRELENTING, AND UNAPOLOGETICALLY VIOLENT! Supporters of the initial show are in store for a delight, mirroring the first season’s fury and intensity. Cox and D’Onofrio continue to shine brightly. Two episodes deep, and all I can express is that The Man Without Fear has made a comeback!

In a raw and unfiltered fashion, the new Daredevil series titled “Daredevil: Born Again” delivers a powerful comeback for the legendary vigilante of Hell’s Kitchen, offering a tough edge that enhances the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unlike traditional Law & Order spin-offs but with superhero elements, it stands out as the finest Marvel television production since the X-Men series from 1997.
