In the series Daredevil: Born Again, there have been hints about characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Daredevil has now officially joined the larger universe. For instance, during a campaign speech where Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) is running for mayor with an anti-vigilante stance, he refers to “a man wearing a spider suit,” which seems like a wink to another famous New York vigilante – Spider-Man. As of the seventh and latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again, only one character from an existing MCU storyline has made a guest appearance, excluding Daredevil himself: Yusuf Khan, who is Kamala Khan’s father (Miss Marvel). In Episode 5, titled “With Interest,” Mr. Khan assists Matt Murdock during a bank robbery before they find themselves in the midst of the ensuing turmoil. However, prior to the chaos, Mr. Khan mentions that his daughter Kamala is currently visiting friends in California.
In relation to the closing scenes of “The Marvels”, it’s worth noting that California plays a more substantial role in the context of the well-known superhero group, the Young Avengers.
Live-Action Young Avengers Has Been a Marvel Fan Dream
In a nod to Nick Fury’s role, Kamala Khan seems to be spearheading the Young Avengers, gathering a group of young superheroes to tackle perils that leverage their unique abilities. To refresh your memory, the closing scene in The Marvels showed Kamala making a visit to Kate Bishop, suggesting her plans for establishing this team.
As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’ve always been captivated by the Young Avenger, Kate Bishop, who has a special connection with California. In the thrilling Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” we follow Kate’s journey from her birth and upbringing in bustling New York City, where the story unfolds. However, delving into Matt Fraction’s comic book series “Hawkeye,” we find a different tale: after a rift between Kate and Clint Barton (the original Hawkeye), Kate and her faithful companion Lucky the Pizza Dog decide to move westward, aiming to carve out their own heroic paths in the Golden State. If the Marvel Cinematic Universe stays true to this comic book storyline, which greatly influenced the “Hawkeye” Disney+ series, it’s only natural that we might catch a glimpse of Kate Bishop in California.
In California resides Cassie Lang, who is none other than Ant-Man’s daughter, Scott Lang. This means it’s quite probable that she and Kamala would cross paths. Interestingly enough, both these young superheroes, Ms. Marvel and Stature (Cassie), hold significant roles within the Young Avengers team.
Three members of the Young Avengers have ties to California, suggesting there could potentially be two more joining them. In the comics, one of the heads of the Young Avengers is Billy Kaplan/Wiccan – the son of the Scarlet Witch. Billy was initially introduced in the MCU as a child on Disney+ series, “WandaVision”, and later reappeared as a teenager in “Agatha All Along”, demonstrating his remarkable abilities that place him among the most powerful characters within Marvel’s universe.
In the end, despite being set in New Jersey, the show “Agatha All Along” finds Agatha and Billy embarking on a journey to track down Billy’s twin brother, Tommy. Neither character hints at knowing Tommy’s whereabouts, but it’s plausible that he might be in California. If this is the case, both brothers, who are members of the Young Avengers, may join forces with their companions, potentially leading them all to the same destination.
In another scenario, Kamala Khan resides in New Jersey as well. If Tommy happens to be in the same state where Billy and Agatha are, it’s possible for them to encounter Kamala. This would complete a team that includes Wiccan, Speed (Tommy), Stature, Miss Marvel, and Hawkeye.
Based on the hint dropped in “Daredevil: Born Again,” it appears that the Young Avengers could be forming sooner rather than later, breathing life into a beloved group of characters. Though Marvel Studios hasn’t officially declared any plans for a Young Avengers project, numerous clues they’ve planted in recent productions suggest their aim to introduce this popular team in some capacity.
Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again premieres new episodes on Disney+ on Tuesdays at 9 PM ET.
