Daredevil: Born Again – Release date speculation, cast and news

As a long-time fan of Marvel comics and shows, I must say that the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney Plus has me absolutely thrilled! The Kingpin, Wilson Fisk, played brilliantly by Vincent D’Onofrio, is back with a vengeance, and it seems he’s aiming for the highest political office in New York City.

After a lengthy recovery period, Charlie Cox’s portrayal of Daredevil is now shaping up in its revamped standalone series at last.

At its D23 fan event, Disney unveiled a trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, which garnered a positive response from the audience, suggesting that the gritty feel of the original Netflix show will likely remain intact.

Concerns have arisen about potential changes to the character, such as a lighter portrayal (as seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), or even abandoning the continuity that was set up by previous series.

It appears that the original idea was implemented, but then underwent significant changes, resulting in a revised concept which closely resembles the former version in style. Additionally, actors Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson were brought back for this update.

Daredevil: Born Again release date window confirmed

Daredevil: Born Again – Release date speculation, cast and news

The highly-anticipated series, “Daredevil: Born Again,” is scheduled for premiere around March 2025. However, an exact launch date has not been specified as of now.

As a movie critic, I must admit that I was eagerly anticipating the release of this series in spring 2024. However, an unexpected creative overhaul during production sent it off course, causing significant delays. To add to the woes, the Writer’s Guild and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes further halted progress. Needless to say, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for its timely return to the silver screen.

As a devotee of cinema, I’ve been keeping tabs on the developments surrounding “Born Again,” and when speaking with TVLine, Cox shared some intriguing insights. He mentioned that the characters in this new adaptation are now more aligned with their Netflix series counterparts, bringing them significantly closer to the versions we’ve grown fond of.

Vincent D’Onofrio remarked: “It’s challenging to express thoughts due to having so many to share about… the transformation experienced, yet the final months of our labor were exceptionally demanding, eloquently scripted, and skillfully directed. All we can do is cross our fingers for the best.”

“Personally, I think it’s as intense as we’ve ever been.”

The initial phase of filming for “Daredevil: Born Again,” a series that’s set to debut in April 2024, has been completed. Contrary to earlier reports, it will only include nine episodes instead of eighteen. This series is slated to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe during its Phase Five.

As a passionate movie enthusiast at D23, I was thrilled to hear directly from producer Kevin Feige that the production for the second season is about to kick off imminently. This exciting news suggests we’ll soon be reunited with our favorite characters, with the series potentially returning to its initially announced episode count.

  • Nikki James as TBC
  • Margarita Levieva as TBC
  • Michael Gandolfini as TBC

  • Lou Taylor Pucci as TBC

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I was thrilled to learn that Charlie Cox will be back in action reprising his role as the main character, following his appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law!

More recently, Cox and D’Onofrio have both made appearances in the latest Marvel Spotlight series titled Echo, which is now streaming on Disney Plus.

It was later verified that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as The Punisher. Most recently, he portrayed this tough character in the hard-hitting Netflix series titled after him, which spanned from 2017 to 2019.

Initially, the creators didn’t plan on having Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll return as Foggy Nelson and Karen Page from Daredevil, but due to some major changes in the planning process, they are now back in their original roles.

Cox said that working with Henson and Woll again was “pretty emotional”, adding that “they are such a heartbeat of this show, and they always have been, and so to have them involved meant the world to us, and I think elevates the show tremendously”.

Previously reported that Sandrine Holt would play Vanessa Fisk, it’s now been confirmed that Ayelet Zurer will return to the role instead.

D’Onofrio praised Zurer as incredibly gifted, hinting that we’ll encounter Wilson and Vanessa during an intriguing period.

At the recent D23 event, it was unexpectedly announced that Mohan Kapur will portray Yusuf Khan, the father of Kamala Khan (also known as Ms Marvel), in the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again.” It remains to be seen what circumstances will bring him into contact with Murdock & Nelson’s office.

I’ve recently come across some exciting news! Michael Gandolfini, Nikki James, Margarita Levieva, and Lou Taylor Pucci are all slated to portray as-of-yet unspecified roles in an upcoming project. Adding to the intrigue, Carnival Row star Arty Froushan has been seen on set as well. I can’t wait to learn more about these talented individuals and their characters!

Daredevil: Born Again plot speculation

At D23, it was unmistakable that the feud between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk will reach new heights, as the former vigilante lawyer vowed to intervene immediately if the latter ever oversteps his bounds.

In a recent interview with the Official Marvel Podcast, producer Brad Winderbaum described Born Again as “incredible” and compared it to recent hit revival X-Men ’97.

He conveyed: “We’re bringing back something cherished by the fans, yet we’re steering it towards fresh grounds. These characters have grown up. The world has evolved since then. Circumstances have shifted. Societal norms have evolved.”

As a die-hard fan here, let me share some insights about the upcoming twist in the tale. Matt and Wilson, two characters I’ve grown fond of, are undergoing significant transformations. Their paths, which were once destined for confrontation through violence, have taken an unexpected turn. Now, it seems their encounters will delve into uncharted territories, beyond the realms of attempted homicide. It appears that a complex web of politics is at play, adding a new layer of intrigue to their dynamic.

It appears that the final line supports the idea hinted at in the Echo post-credits scene, which is that Wilson Fisk is planning to run for mayor of New York City.

How did Daredevil season 3 end on Netflix?

Daredevil: Born Again – Release date speculation, cast and news

As a dedicated cinephile, I found myself utterly captivated by the thrilling conclusion of Daredevil’s third season on Netflix. In this gripping finale, the formidable Wilson Fisk met his match, courtesy of none other than Matt Murdock, Karen Page, and an ensemble of allies who banded together to bring him down.

As a passionate cinephile, I found myself in a predicament where I reluctantly chose to re-enter the confines of a correctional facility, all in an effort to shield my cherished wife, Vanessa, from public scrutiny regarding her connection to the demise of a federal agent. Matt, my adversary, held this knowledge and I felt compelled to protect her innocence at any cost.

In the course of events, the ex-federal agent Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, who had a psychopathic nature, betrayed his mentor Wilson Fisk. However, their altercation resulted in Dex being left paralyzed, as Fisk is known as the Kingpin.

Instead, during the last sequence, Dex was observed receiving a groundbreaking medical procedure aimed at healing his spine – implying he’ll come back seeking retribution against Murdock and Fisk.

Ultimately, Murdock reconnected with his past love, Karen Page, as well as his close friend and legal partner, Foggy Nelson. It was evident that he hoped to collaborate with them once more.

It remains to be seen just how much of the Daredevil series will remain canon.

When did we last see Wilson Fisk?

Daredevil: Born Again – Release date speculation, cast and news

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Echo on Disney Plus, the character portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio, known as Kingpin or Wilson Fisk, was last seen. His adoptive niece, Maya, is on a vengeful quest, avenging the death of her father in a violent manner.

Remarkably, he lived through a gunshot wound to the head inflicted by Maya. Intriguingly, Vincent D’Onofrio hinted to TVLine: “For enthusiasts of Kingpin and Daredevil – particularly those who are familiar with the old comics – you may recall that Kingpin is virtually indestructible.”

Importantly, the mid-credits sequence reveals Kingpin’s intent to contest for the mayoral position of New York City, thus laying the groundwork for a significant narrative arc in Daredevil: Reborn.

Said scene shows Kingpin back on his plane, as he tells his aide: “I want a meeting with all the other heads. We need to stabilise the situation before it spirals out of control.”

As I gaze at the television screen, I catch a lively discussion about the New York City mayoral race – it seems there’s no obvious front-runner just yet. Yet, as I ponder on this, I find myself thinking, “That could be me.”

Previously, he made an appearance in the Disney Plus series Hawkeye. In the second-to-last episode, his identity as the main villain of the show was unmasked.

Daredevil: Born Again – Release date speculation, cast and news

It was revealed that Fisk was secretly working with Eleanor Bishop, a woman whose deceased husband had debt towards Fisk. However, when Bishop attempted to sever their alliance, Fisk made an attempt on her life, only for his actions to be thwarted by her daughter, Kate.

The series also introduced Fisk’s surrogate niece and protégée Maya Lopez, who commands the gang known as the Tracksuit Mafia for her uncle.

Lopez yearned for vengeance against the assassin known as Ronin, who was once Clint Barton (played by Jeremy Renner), due to the killing of her father, William Lopez (portrayed by Zahn McClarnon).

Barton confided in Lopez that he had been secretly employed by a confidential source within the Tracksuit Mafia to carry out an assassination on her father. This revelation left Lopez doubting her trusted associate and friend, Kazi Kazimierczak (Fra Free).

Following an altercation where she ended up taking Kazi’s life, Lopez now possesses the information that her “uncle” Fisk was responsible for her father’s demise.

After eluding the authorities following his meeting with the Bishops, Fisk found himself in a standoff with Lopez, who had him cornered and pointed a gun at him. A single gunshot echoed.

This storyline was picked up by 2024 miniseries Echo on Disney Plus, as outlined above.

When did we last see Matt Murdock?

Daredevil: Born Again – Release date speculation, cast and news

I, as a devoted fan, recently caught a glimpse of Matt Murdock (portrayed by Charlie Cox) in the Disney Plus series titled Echo. In a tantalizingly brief scene hinted at in a trailer prior to its release, Daredevil found himself squaring off with Maya, sparking curiosity about their upcoming encounter.

Earlier, Daredevil made an appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. In the final episode of the series, Charlie Cox teamed up with Tatiana Maslany as they embarked on a joint mission with Jennifer Walters.

Originally, he said: “I think I’m still processing it. It seems almost unbelievable. I honestly thought I had moved on from it; I didn’t anticipate this would occur. Frankly, I can’t find the right words to express it. I feel incredibly thankful.”

It came after his surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
