It looks like photos shared by the account @_DaredevilShots suggest Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock might wear a different costume in “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2. The images show Cox wearing what appears to be a cape coat over his Daredevil suit at night. A comparison with a similar image from Season 1 shows that Cox seems to be sporting an all-black costume in the Season 2 photo, whereas he wore a red outfit in the Season 1 picture. This change implies that Matt Murdock could have a new Daredevil costume for the show’s second season.
It’s hinted that the “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2 might explore the “Shadowland” storyline from the comics. In this narrative, Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, dons a black outfit to reflect the darker tones of the tale. In “Shadowland,” Daredevil is taken over by the Beast of the Hand, leading him to act in ways that are more extreme than his typical behavior. The storyline’s central location, Shadowland, is a prison complex constructed by Matt within Hell’s Kitchen. Notable Marvel characters such as Spider-Man, Moon Knight, Luke Cage, and the Punisher are also part of the broader “Shadowland” plot.

Despite the fact that “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 1 just started streaming on Disney+ this month, filming for Season 2 kicked off back in late February. As of now, a specific release date for Season 2 hasn’t been revealed yet. Actor Matthew Lillard has signed up for the Season 2 cast, but his character’s role remains undisclosed.
Before the premiere of Season 1, Cox hinted to ComicBook that there’s a chance he might wear several Daredevil costumes during “Born Again”. Promotional materials for the series show various masks for Matt to select, one of which is black and could complement a costume inspired by “Shadowland”. Regarding the possibility of donning the iconic “DD” emblem, Cox remained tight-lipped. However, an emblem similar to the one used in “Shadowland” is visible on one of the suits.
In the context of the upcoming Season 2 of “Daredevil: Born Again,” it’s not unexpected that Daredevil might receive a fresh suit. It’s typical for comic book series adaptations to offer characters new outfits with each appearance, serving both narrative and merchandising needs. If Season 2 leans towards the “Shadowland” storyline, Marvel wouldn’t be slavishly recreating the comic but could use elements from it, depending on the developments in Season 1. “Shadowland” is a gritty, intense tale that would fit well with the tone of “Daredevil: Born Again,” allowing Marvel to delve into narrative territories they can’t explore as easily in other parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Incorporating “Shadowland” into the storyline for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 could pave the way for the reappearance of Defenders characters, as Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum hinted that their return to the franchise is unavoidable at some point. While adaptations from source material may require changes, this could be an opportunity to bring back these gritty street-level superheroes to the MCU. With Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 ongoing, fans will have to wait and see what surprises await in Season 2.
