Daredevil: Born Again Set Photos Reveal Jessica Jones’ MCU Return

2 members of the Defender team are out. Krysten Ritter, known as Jessica Jones from Alias Investigations, has resurfaced and is once again working alongside Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in leaked photos from the upcoming season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Marvel Studios confirmed Ritter’s return at their presentation during the Disney upfronts two weeks ago. Recently, paparazzi have captured a picture showing one member of the original Defenders quartet, which also included Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist as seen in 2017’s The Defenders.

On a Brooklyn, New York set, Ritter dons Jessica’s famous black leather jacket, standing alongside Cox’s dark-garbed Daredevil. It seems likely that Jessica will join forces with Daredevil against Mayor Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), as they gather to fight him and his special police unit – the Anti Vigilante Task Force. This task force has already defeated White Tiger (Kamar de Los Reyes) and is now targeting Frank Castle/The Punisher (Jon Bernthal).

It feels fantastic to return, as I’ve reunited with Jessica once again following a gap of three seasons and The Defenders, now joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” Ritter expressed during Marvel’s segment at the Disney upfronts. “I’m thrilled to revive this renowned character, and while I won’t reveal too much, there are many exciting things coming up for Jessica Jones. This new season is going to be spectacular!

From 2015 to 2019, Ritter portrayed an alcoholic, powerful private investigator with superpowers in the Netflix series Jessica Jones, and then again in the miniseries The Defenders that aired in 2017.

In the second season of the Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again”, Charlie Cox reprises his role as Daredevil for the first time since the cancellation of his solo series, “Jessica”. During its run, Jessica faced off against various adversaries such as the Purple Man (David Tennant), her mother Alisa Jones (Janet McTeer), and a friend-turned-foe Patricia “Trish” Walker, who became the vigilante Hellcat (Rachael Taylor).

Ritter is part of a lineup featuring Deborah Ann Woll portraying Karen Page, Margarita Levieva as anti-vigilante Dr. Heather Glenn, and Wilson Bethel as the character Bullseye (Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter). Ayelet Zurer plays Vanessa Fisk, with Zabryna Guevara, Michael Gandolfini, and Arty Froushan completing Mayor Fisk’s team. Daredevil’s associates include Clark Johnson as Cherry, Genneya Walton as BB Urich, and Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher. Matthew Lillard (famous for Scream and Scooby-Doo) has been cast in an unspecified role, while Lili Taylor (known for The Conjuring and American Crime) has joined the series as the Governor of New York.

Whether Colter and Jones return as Luke Cage and Iron Fist, respectively, remains to be seen.

Dario Scardapane, the showrunner, once expressed that he doesn’t see a vast gap between himself and the fans, considering himself as much a fan as they are. In an interview with TVLine about the possibility of a Defenders reunion in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, he hinted that while he may not give away everything the fans desire, there’s a strong likelihood that New York will face hard times and that Hell’s Kitchen and Daredevil’s universe might extend to include new characters we haven’t met yet.

He expressed doubt about a complete reunion of the Defenders, but suggested that the possibility of encountering new characters in our world is exciting.

Marvel TV’s Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is slated to premiere March 2026 on Disney+.
