Marvel’s gritty series, “Daredevil: Born Again,” dominated the competition on Disney+ this year, racking up an impressive number of views. Starring Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, it premiered its first two episodes on March 4, amassing a staggering 7.5 million views in just five days, making it the most-watched premiere of 2025. However, it failed to surpass the viewership records set by “Loki” season 2 (with 10.9 million views in three days in 2023) and “Agatha All Along” (9.3 million views over seven days in 2024).
Compared to the two-part premieres of “The Acolyte” live-action Star Wars series, which garnered 11.1 million views within five days in June 2024, and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” which had 13.3 million views over its first six days in December 2023, the viewership of both “Heaven’s Half Hour” and “Optics” premieres were lower.
2021 saw Disney+ reveal that the debut of the Captain America spinoff series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier featuring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, surpassed both The Mandalorian (released in 2019) and WandaVision (2021) as their streaming service’s most-watched series premiere, although specific viewer numbers remained undisclosed. Later in 2022, the Star Wars series headlined by Ewan McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, claimed this title after shattering previous viewing records.
The comeback of Marvel’s Daredevil on Hulu and Disney+ exceeded the 7 million views that Paradise, a thriller starring Sterling K. Brown and James Marsden, gathered in nine days upon its release in February. It also outperformed upcoming Disney+ premieres such as Marvel Studios’ animated Spider-Man series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (which includes the voice of Daredevil by Charlie Cox), Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the second season of National Geographic docu-series A Real Bug’s Life, and Pixar’s debut animated sports comedy, Win or Lose.
The first two episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again” have garnered strong reviews, reaching the top spot on Disney+’s Top 10 list during its initial week. However, it’s Rotten Tomatoes score of 83% is slightly lower than most Marvel Studios TV series. For instance, shows like Agatha All Along (84%), The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (85%), Moon Knight (86%), Loki (87%), Hawkeye (92%), WandaVision (92%), and even Ms. Marvel (98%) have higher scores. Interestingly, the original Daredevil series produced by Marvel Television, which aired on Netflix from 2015 to 2018, had a critics’ score of 92%.
The Return of Daredevil, featuring Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer, with Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson, broadcasts fresh episodes every Tuesday night on Disney+.
At present, work is being done on the second installment of the series “Born Again“, while Marvel has approved a standalone presentation titled “Punisher: Special Presentation”, which will feature Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the gun-wielding vigilante.
