Stephen DeKnight, the showrunner of Daredevil, recently addressed some fan comments over the weekend, stating that the primary reason Daredevil: Born Again appears different from the Netflix version is due to budget constraints. A fan account shared a video compilation of action scenes from the Disney+ shows featuring Daredevil, praising his increased agility and acrobatics, as well as his movement being more akin to the comic book Daredevil since he joined the MCU. DeKnight clarified that this was an aspect they had always aimed to enhance in the Netflix series, but only with the arrival of the Disney+ era were they granted the budget necessary for these improvements. The specifics regarding whether this refers to CGI, choreography, or a mix of both remain unclear.
In a nutshell, he explained that the lack of a specific scene or element on the Daredevil show was primarily due to financial constraints. He further added that if there had been sufficient funds available, they would have included it. DeKnight, having served as the showrunner for Daredevil in 2015 and previously for Spartacus, brings a wealth of experience in action-packed storytelling to the table. Viewers who watched Daredevil back in 2015 were reportedly not let down by the series.
DeKnight was responsible for the first season of “Daredevil,” following which he shifted to work in the Transformers franchise writers’ room and went on to write and direct “Pacific Rim Uprising.” Since then, he has not re-entered the MCU and is not involved with “Born Again.” The series known as “Born Again” is being overseen by showrunner Dario Scardapane; however, like all Marvel productions, it’s a collaborative effort involving a large team.
initially, they usually produced 13 episodes, whereas nowadays, they’re fortunate to have eight or ten. Some shows have even been reduced to just six episodes.
Originally, Born Again was intended to air as one expansive 18-episode season, reminiscent of traditional network TV programming. But, the structure eventually changed, resulting in two seasons with nine episodes each. Filming for the second season is currently underway, shortening the gap between its releases.
As a passionate movie reviewer, let me share my thoughts on the upcoming episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again”. Over the next fortnight, you’ll have three more exciting installments to look forward to, airing every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET on Disney+. Interestingly, if you haven’t already, you can stream the Netflix-era “Daredevil” series alongside these new episodes on the same platform. Enjoy the thrilling ride!
