The series “Daredevil: Born Again” delves into a chilling narrative where an appealing yet morally bankrupt individual ascends to power as mayor and exploits it, but actor Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, doubts this corruption would escalate beyond that level. In an interview with Variety, he expressed his belief that Kingpin wouldn’t be capable of or even interested in reaching the Oval Office at this juncture. He admitted the resemblance between this storyline and contemporary real-world politics, but for him, the horror of “Born Again” is confined within the boundaries of New York City.

In my opinion, Wilson Fisk isn’t someone I associate with politics; rather, he seems corrupt. While it’s possible for this to occur, I find it highly unlikely that he’ll choose that route. Given the context of our show and reality, I don’t believe we’re heading in that direction.

The actor continued, discussing Tuesday’s season finale of Born Again. ‘My character’s actions are very risky,’ he said. As a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn and living there since my late teens, the concept of New York under martial law is terrifying. In actuality, it’s a chilling thought. If you consider the bridges being sealed off and only allowing entry with identification and proof of necessity, it’s almost unbelievable… It would be madness.

To D’Onofrio, the most relatable real-life comparison was the days following 9/11, particularly the widespread anxiety in the city during that time. He finds this period serves as his closest point of reference for the situation at the end of this season. However, numerous online commentators argue that Born Again contains direct references to the current political climate in the United States, with New York City playing a significant role in these parallels.

D’Onofrio has established himself as one of the longest-lasting and most productive villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), having portrayed Wilson Fisk for a complete decade. He was among the initial characters from the Netflix series to transition to the Disney+ shows. The audience continues to yearn for more of him, including a big-screen debut. Following this season’s suspenseful finale, it definitely seems that anything could happen.
