As a lifelong fan who’s been on this Berserk journey since its inception, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia. The news of the 42nd volume coming to North America next March is like a beacon of hope in these dark times. It’s been a long wait since the last official manga volume, but as they say, good things come to those who wait.
After the sad demise of Berserk’s creator Kentaro Miura, the series has persisted thanks to friends like Koji Mori and Studio Gaga artists who have been working off conversations and outlines left behind by Miura. The story of Guts’ vengeance and survival has carried on with new manga installments. While fans eagerly await the next chapter, Dark Horse Entertainment made a special announcement at this year’s Anime NYC that will delight fans: a new manga volume featuring characters like Guts, Griffith, and Casca is heading to North America. Dark Horse has also shared an estimated release date for the 42nd volume in the West.
Despite the ongoing publication of the “Berserk” manga, no updates have been given about a potential new anime adaptation. The last time we witnessed the Band of the Hawk on our screens was through “Berserk: Memorial Edition”. This television series combined old and new footage from the Berserk film trilogy to create a fresh series. As there are numerous battles and manga events yet to be animated, some dedicated fan animators have recently started independent projects to animate these scenes.
Berserk’s North American Return
In March of next year, Dark Horse Comics will release the 42nd volume of Berserk in the United States. As described, Guts and Casca are filled with fury and fear upon Griffith’s unexpected emergence on Elf Island, which has also caused a chasm within the magical island and released an army of destructive creatures from beneath the earth. With his trusted sword seemingly failing him, escaping by ship may be their only chance for survival, but not everyone is leaving Elf Island simultaneously!
2021 marked the arrival of the previous “Berserk” manga volume in North America, signifying that it’s been quite some time since fans had access to an official manga volume post-Black Swordsman. Even without a current running anime series, The Band of The Hawk is destined to maintain a significant presence in the anime universe for years to come.
