Initially, Minor Threats initiates the action with an explosive start, causing Playtime’s establishment to erupt in pandemonium when a menacing figure appears battered. The surprising culprit behind this assault is none other than The Insomniac, who possesses remarkable skill but always aims for precise blows that incapacitate without causing harm. However, it turns out that things are not as they seem, and the bar learns about an incident earlier in the day that could have triggered The Insomniac’s wrath. Consequently, the bar may never return to its former state following this revelation.
The creative team behind “Minor Threats” includes writers Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum, artist Scott Hepburn, colorist Ian Herring, and letterer Nate Piekos. This Library Edition will include 256 pages of content in a unique hardcover format.
Besides the large-format hardback, the Library Edition comes with additional content: a sketchbook section containing Hepburn’s notes, as well as a collection of past cover art. The first volume of The Minor Threats Library Edition is set to arrive in bookstores on February 10th and comic shops on the 11th. It will be priced at $49.99. In Minor Threats Volumes 1 and 2, you’ll follow the journey of Twilight City’s initial masked criminal queen, Playtime (also known as Frankie Follis). In Volume 1: A Swift Conclusion to a Lengthy Beginning, we meet Frankie, a second-generation villain, who yearns for a new beginning and freedom from the life of crime that she was forced into since her childhood. However, when The Stickman, Twilight’s top-tier villain, murders the sidekick of its A-list hero, The Insomniac, chaos erupts. The blue-collar D-list hoodlums feel the brunt of this most acutely as they are hunted by The Insomniac’s superhero team on The Continuum, transforming the city into a police state. Faced with these circumstances, Frankie appears to don the mask one last time, recruiting a group of fellow lowlifes for an ambitious mission on the year’s most perilous night. Together, they aim to capture the bounty on The Stickman’s head and bring him down themselves.
In the sequel titled “Volume 2: The Swift Descent into Darkness”, after disrupting the balance between good and evil, Frankie elects to reconnect with her criminal history and climb the ladder of power as she constructs her empire. However, bearing such a crown is not without its burdens as dangers arise from all directions. Rival villain gangs are igniting a territorial dispute, while Frankie’s advisor/lover, Scalpel, urges her to legalize her expanding business. A band of deranged superhero sidekicks known as The Action have arrived in Twilight, intent on unearthing secrets that could potentially dismantle the essence of Frankie’s power. Can Frankie maintain control? Or will the ex-minor leaguer turned crime lord lose everything she has worked so hard to achieve?
