Dark Horse's Minor Threats Getting Netflix Series

As a long-time comic book fan and avid reader of “Minor Threats,” I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard the news that this beloved series is making its way to television screens, exclusively on Netflix. Dark Horse Comics has always been known for producing high-quality and unique stories, and “Minor Threats” is no exception.

The popular Dark Horse Comics series “Minor Threats” is making its way to Netflix. According to recent reports, this is an exciting development as the same writers from the comic books will be penning the television adaptation. Not only that, but Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum, who have previously worked together on the show, will serve as the showrunners. Scott Hepburn, the artist of the original series, is also involved as an executive producer. Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse are also producing. In simpler terms, “Minor Threats” from Dark Horse Comics is coming to Netflix with its original writers leading the way and key collaborators in important roles.

In our conversation with Oswalt and Blum back in 2022, they shared that discussions had taken place regarding the adaptation of “Minor Threats” into a TV series.

Blum expressed that it’s important for people to initially appreciate the comic for what it is before discussions arise. He believes readers can identify when a comic is an adaptation from a pilot or movie. Instead of creating such a work, they aimed to produce the finest comic possible, and if opportunities for expansion arose later, they would consider it. The team wanted to remain true to their love for comics and create something distinctive and excellent in this medium.

The second volume of the series, “Minor Threats: The Fastest Way Down,” will be released in a trade paperback format in November.

In an unexpected turn of events, Playtime, also known as Frankie Follis, has emerged victorious in Twilight City’s power struggle between the hero, The Insomniac, and the villain, The Stickman. With both key figures eliminated, Frankie seizes control over the underworld criminal empire of Redport. However, her reign is far from peaceful. Rival gangs contest her leadership, Scalpel, her trusted advisor, urges her to go legitimate, and the guilt of taking The Insomniac’s life haunts her deeply. Frankie will soon discover the true weight of being a supervillain queenpin. “Heavy is the head that wears the crown” holds truth for her in more ways than one.

The “Minor Threats” series and other related comic books are now accessible for purchase at all comic retailers.
