As we eagerly await the release of Season 2 of “Andor”, fans can look forward to the next live-action Star Wars TV show on Lucasfilm’s schedule: “Ahsoka” Season 2. Showrunner Dave Filoni recently mentioned at the Lucasfilm Animation panel during Star Wars Celebration Japan (via Screen Rant) that production for the second season will begin “soon”. While Filoni is currently promoting a range of upcoming projects, his producing partner Carrie Beck is preparing for the start of “Ahsoka” Season 2 in the U.K.
During the panel, it was announced that a new animated series titled “Maul: Shadow Lord” is coming soon. However, Filoni didn’t provide a specific timeframe for the filming of “Ahsoka“, nor did he give any indication as to when the second season might be released.
It’s possible that some Star Wars enthusiasts thought that production on season 2 of “Ahsoka” had already commenced. In late March, a friend of Ezra Bridger actor Eman Esfandi posted on social media, expressing congratulations to Esfandi for launching a new podcast and starting off with “Ahsoka” Season 2. Previous reports suggested that filming would start in April.
In line with the secretive approach often taken by Lucasfilm, specifics about Season 2 of Ahsoka have been scarce. However, a significant update is that Rory McCann is rumored to take over the role previously held by the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll. Additionally, Lucasfilm has hinted at future events for Baylan’s former apprentice Shin Hati, suggesting in a published work that she has allied with outlaw groups on Peridea and continues her pursuit of Sabine and Ezra.
According to Filoni’s statements, they align with what we already know about the timeline for Ahsoka Season 2. After Celebration ends, Filoni might travel to England personally to kick off production. Given his extensive involvement in the show, it seems logical for him to wait until he’s fully accessible before filming begins. While members of the team can certainly prepare ahead, it’s expected that Filoni, who is also the sole credited writer and a key figure behind the scenes, will be present during principal photography to closely collaborate with the series directors.
Based on the most recent news, it’s highly probable that the second season of Ahsoka won’t premiere until sometime in 2026 at the earliest. This is because production for Season 1 lasted six months (May-October 2022), and if Season 2 follows a similar pattern, filming might not wrap up until September or October of this year.
Lucasfilm plans to use various filming methods for this season, including shooting on real locations, which could lengthen the production process. As a result, fans may have to wait until mid-to-late 2026 before Ahsoka makes her comeback. It’s also speculated that the second season might air after The Mandalorian and Grogu finish their cinema run, providing ample time for both projects to captivate audiences before Star Wars returns to television.
Though the narratives of the two series don’t seem connected, they share some common elements, such as the New Republic setting. Both shows could serve as stepping stones for Filoni’s upcoming Star Wars movie by helping establish its foundation within the Star Wars universe.
