David Mitchell’s comedy drama Ludwig confirms release date

As a long-time admirer of David Mitchell’s comedic prowess, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming premiere of Ludwig on BBC One and iPlayer! Having grown up watching classic British detective series like Miss Marple with my parents, it’s heartwarming to see Mitchell stepping into this genre. And let me tell you, there’s nothing quite as entertaining as a quick-witted comic playing a reclusive puzzle enthusiast who becomes a DCI in Cambridge’s Major Investigations Team!

David Mitchell’s comedy drama Ludwig has a confirmed premiere date and time on BBC One and iPlayer.

In this eagerly awaited show, we find John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, humorously known for his roles in Would I Lie to You? and Peep Show, portrayed as a solitary individual with an intense fascination for puzzles. However, his peaceful seclusion is disrupted when his brother, James, mysteriously vanishes, compelling him to step out of his shell.

In an effort to locate his missing brother, he decides to impersonate him, taking on his role as a well-regarded detective chief inspector within the Major Investigations Team of the Cambridge Police Department. Can he manage to stay undetected while also tackling some cases in the process?

We’ll find out when Ludwig premieres on BBC One and iPlayer at 9pm on Wednesday 25th September.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but marvel at Mitchell’s charm on those fast-paced panel shows. Yet, his fame doesn’t stop there! He’s also graced the screens of Channel 4 in Peep Show and Back, two shows where he shared the limelight with the talented Robert Webb. In fact, they even penned and performed some hilarious sketch comedy together.

In addition to his appearances on the screen, he has portrayed characters such as William Shakespeare in the comedy series Upstart Crow and Nick Morris in the satirical work of Steve Coogan titled Greed.

Upon hearing about Ludwig, Mitchell expressed his joy by saying, “It’s wonderful to be part of a TV genre that I’ve been passionate about since I was 10 years old and first watched the Miss Marple adaptations featuring Joan Hickson with my parents.

“Sometimes the only thing that can bring the whole family together is murder.”

I’m thrilled to share that some amazing talents have joined the cast for upcoming events! Derek Jacobi, Felicity Kendal, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Karl Pilkington, Allan Mustafa, Paul Chahidi, and Hammed Animashaun will all make guest appearances. What a fantastic lineup!

Ludwig was penned by Mark Brotherhood, who has previously worked on shows like Father Brown, The Trouble with Maggie Cole, Benidorm, Shameless, and Mount Pleasant.

Ludwig is coming to BBC One and iPlayer on BBC One and iPlayer at 9pm on Wednesday 25th September.
