David Suchet’s Shocking Reason for Ignoring Other Poirot Actors Revealed!

In an interview, David Suchet shares his insights about other performers’ modern portrayals of his iconic character, Hercule Poirot, as he prepares to make a comeback to television in the series The Au Pair.

Instead, it appears he doesn’t watch others portraying the role, as Suchet mentioned this is his strategy to maintain impartiality.

In response to being asked about Kenneth Branagh and John Malkovich’s portrayals of Poirot as featured in the latest TopMob magazine, Suchet stated: “I’ve never seen their performances, for a valid reason – it allows me to express that I hold no opinion on the matter.

In every job interview, I’m often posed with a similar question, but contrary to popular belief, I’m not trying to indicate dislike. On the contrary, I genuinely hope all those portraying that captivating character find success.

Regarding queries about the enduring influence of his portrayal of Poirot, Suchet remarked: “During a tour with my one-person show titled ‘Poirot and More, A Retrospective’, I once encountered a nine-year-old boy dressed as Poirot, complete with the iconic mustache, flower vase pin on his lapel, and spats. Nowadays, I interact with people of all ages, and experiences like that are the most gratifying aspects of my acting career!

From 1989 to 2013, David Suchet starred as Hercule Poirot in a total of 70 film adaptations of Agatha Christie’s novels.

In 2018, Malkovich portrayed the character in a version of The ABC Murders, while Branagh has taken on the role in three film adaptations of Agatha Christie’s stories up to now, in 2017, 2022, and 2023.

Currently playing on BBC One is a fresh take on Agatha Christie’s work titled “Towards Zero,” but unlike previous adaptations, this version does not include the iconic character of Hercule Poirot.

Suchet now stars in The Au Pair, a Channel 5 drama also starring Sally Bretton.

The narrative revolves around a father with diabetes who recently moved next door to his daughter. However, the arrival of a French au pair causes an unexpected and unnerving change within their home environment.

In addition to myself, the stellar cast of this captivating four-part series includes Ludmilla Makowski, Kenny Doughty, Virginie Ledoyen, and Clodagh Moriarty.
