As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say, it’s been pretty impressive to see the recent success of the team at Rebellion. Known mainly for their Sniper Elite series, their latest release, Atomfall, has just shattered all previous records, making it their most successful launch ever in their 32-year journey!
On March 27, Atomfall officially debuted and amassed over a million players during its inaugural weekend. As of now, it’s surpassed that number, with over 1.5 million players. This post-apocalyptic survival game was influenced by the Windscale nuclear incident in the 1950s, earning comparisons from some to “British Fallout.
Jason Kingsley, our CEO and co-founder at Rebellion, expressed in a statement how impressive it is that we’ve amassed over 1 million players so quickly. This rapid growth underscores the ingenuity and commitment of everyone on our team. With our size and stability, we’re able to take bold steps to develop something as unique as Atomfall, and it’s rewarding to see that gamble is proving successful.
Rebellion also shared some other stats from launch, including:
- 316,000 players killed the scientist at the start of the game
- Players have used the cricket bat 3.7 million times to rack up kills.
- More than 4 million pasties and 300,000 cups of tea have been consumed.
It’s clear that Atomfall saw an increase in its player base following its inclusion in the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass library. What’s not known is the exact number of copies sold on various platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation consoles, and PC, which Rebellion has yet to disclose.
It appears that there’s no clear way to determine how Rebellion is gauging the success of Atomfall, neither do we have information about its development and marketing costs. As is often the case with game development, budgets can be secretive. However, it’s worth noting that Atomfall isn’t Rebellion’s first title to launch on Game Pass, as Sniper Elite: Resistance also debuted on the service.
In simpler terms, TopMob’s review for Atomfall gave it a 7 out of 10. The reviewer, Mark Delaney, said that Atomfall is a decent game, but at times it can be self-destructive. However, the experience of discovering your personal journey within its narrative will linger with you even after the excitement subsides.
