Days Gone Dev Reportedly Hit with Layoffs, Loses 30% of Staff

According to a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the team behind Days Gone, Bend Studio, has announced layoffs affecting approximately 40 employees, which equates to about 30% of their workforce.

According to a post on Bluesky, Schreier reported: “Today, Sony’s Bend Studio, which recently cancelled a live-service game, is letting go of approximately 30% of its workforce (around 40 employees). The studio has since been focusing on a new project following the cancellation.

According to the Bloomberg reporter, Bend Studio and remake experts Bluepoint Games were both working on a live service project that got cancelled, rumored to be related to God of War. However, specifics about what Bend Studio was developing remain undisclosed.

In response to the cancellations, Sony stated they would collaborate with both teams to figure out future projects and planned to take all necessary steps to lessen any potential business disruption. Approaching half a year later, it’s been reported that Bend Studio has undergone a significant layoff, estimated to be around 30% of its total workforce.

The developer has just brought back their most successful game yet, Days Gone, in an upgraded version for PS5. This update gives the game its ultimate console edition. As for what their next project might be, it’s still unclear, but with 40 employees recently let go, it seems that future projects will be developed without them, at least in the near term.
