After the unexpected cancellation of their unnamed, live-service game by PlayStation, the developers at Bend Studio, known for creating Days Gone, have shared some insights on their future projects. This decision came as a surprise since PlayStation had initially decided not to greenlight a sequel for Days Gone and instead focused on this live-service project. Now that this project has been cancelled, a member from Bend Studio has spoken up about the studio’s upcoming plans.
In a post addressed to X, Kevin McCallister, community manager of Bend Studio, expressed gratitude to those who had contacted members of the team recently. McCallister didn’t provide details about the game that was recently cancelled, but did hint at what lies ahead for Bend Studio. Essentially, he mentioned that the team is still committed to producing exciting and innovative projects in the future.
I won’t take up much of your time. I want to express my gratitude for the kindness and encouragement that everyone has shown me, with a special thanks to those who have reached out. Rest assured, we are determined to continue producing exciting projects.
Due to the cancellation of their latest game, Bend Studio might experience a prolonged hiatus before releasing another title. It’s been approximately six years since they launched “Days Gone”, and even though they assisted with the PC port which came out in 2021, this would still be one of the longest intervals between projects for any studio under PlayStation’s ownership.
After all, it’s natural for PlayStation enthusiasts to ponder if Bend Studio might revisit the idea of developing Days Gone 2 since its predecessor was quite popular. However, with many of the original team members having moved on from Bend, a sequel may not be feasible. Nevertheless, there are whispers of a Days Gone movie in development at PlayStation Productions, which could potentially lead to the revival of the series. If this happens, an official announcement for Days Gone 2 might not come until a few years down the line.
