Indeed, that’s correct: “Days Gone” is set to receive a PS5 remaster. As one of the major players in the gaming world, PlayStation boasts some of the most cherished series in the industry, such as Uncharted, God of War, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, and numerous others. However, there are games that don’t quite fit into the mainstream success story of PlayStation. Some titles didn’t resonate with critics or failed to achieve the commercial success required for continued development, eventually fading into obscurity alongside other unsuccessful PlayStation intellectual properties. Games like “The Order 1886” and “Knack” fall into this category, but one that fans haven’t let go of is “Days Gone“.
Initially met with criticism upon release due to numerous bugs and underdevelopment of concepts, Days Gone, developed by Bend Studio over an extended period, failed to meet expectations. Despite this, it managed to gather a dedicated fanbase who view it as an overlooked gem on the PS4. For some time now, there’s been no talk about a sequel for Days Gone at PlayStation, and recently, the studio has canceled its upcoming project and is currently seeking new ideas. The future of the Days Gone IP, however, seems to show promising signs.
Days Gone Remastered Releases in April With New Content
Following numerous whispers about a remastered version of Days Gone, Sony has officially confirmed its existence. The anticipated Days Gone Remastered is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on April 25th, 2025. For the PC release, it seems to be coming as a DLC rather than a full-blown remaster like the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which delivered a significant visual enhancement. However, the PlayStation 5 version will boast some enhancements such as extended foliage draw distances, graphical improvements, and compatibility with the PS5 Pro.
The main attraction of Days Gone Remastered lies in its expanded content. In this updated version of Days Gone, players can experience a challenging permadeath mode, where dying means starting the game from scratch all over again. Additionally, there’s an exciting new horde mode for annihilating zombies, enhanced accessibility options, a more sophisticated photo mode, and a speedrun mode that pushes players to complete the lengthy game as swiftly as they can.
Those who already own Days Gone on PS4 can upgrade to the remastered version for $10, while those who own it on PC can purchase it as a $10 DLC. For newcomers, the cost of the remastered version is set at $49.99. It’s unclear why PlayStation is releasing the remastered version now, as there has been no recent news about a planned Days Gone movie.
