The developers responsible for the game “Days Gone,” Bend Studio, recently let go of many employees due to the termination of a multiplayer project. The PlayStation 4 era was marked by remarkable gaming experiences, thanks to its robust hardware, reasonable pricing, and an abundance of captivating titles. This contributed significantly to the console’s success as it transitioned into the PS5 generation. However, this generation has been characterized by a notable scarcity of major first-party games from PlayStation. While third-party exclusives like Final Fantasy have been instrumental in filling the void, fans eagerly anticipate new titles from studios such as Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch.
It’s regrettable that many high-profile games have been cancelled this year. For instance, a new online-oriented God of War game was abandoned last year, Concord was launched but quickly faded within days, leading to increased discontent among PlayStation users. The cancellation of games seems relentless, negatively impacting the overall quality. Interestingly, Death Stranding 2 isn’t strictly a first-party production since Kojima Productions is independent, and the original game eventually came out on Xbox five years later. Given this pattern, it’s possible that Death Stranding 2 may also appear on other platforms in the future.
According to Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, Bend Studio is letting go of approximately 40 employees, which accounts for about one-third of their staff. This decision follows the cancellation of a live service game they were working on earlier this year. Despite this, the studio is moving forward with a new project, but no specific details have been disclosed yet. The studio has faced financial difficulties for some time now, as its 2019 release, Days Gone, didn’t meet expectations despite gaining popularity since its launch. It appears that PlayStation is not planning to develop any more games within the Days Gone franchise.
According to Bloomberg News, Sony’s Bend Studio, which recently ended work on a live-service game, is letting go of approximately 40 employees, representing about 30% of its staff. After the cancellation, the studio is now focusing efforts on a new project.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve always been eager for more from Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series, but rumors suggested that Bend was working on a fresh installment after Days Gone. Sadly, that project too seemed to have met its demise. Time has passed and there’s a glimmer of hope for Days Gone 2, but it appears more like a dream than reality given the departures from the original team. Regardless, I can’t help but wonder about Bend’s future endeavors – will they create another exciting new intellectual property or perhaps take charge of yet another beloved PlayStation franchise? Only time will tell.
