The long-awaited follow-up to one of DC’s most acclaimed crossover comics has arrived at comic book stores, and it’s making quite an entrance! Godzilla and King Kong are returning to cause havoc in the DC Universe once more in “Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2“, but this time the DC Universe isn’t going to be a passive bystander. Amanda Waller, who has always preferred to wield the biggest stick, is determined not to let these Titans have their way again. After even Superman was defeated by the King of Monsters during their previous encounter, Waller is now planning to create her own Titan to face off against Godzilla directly. Her ideal candidate for this task? The popular hybrid creature, King Shark.
The Justice League is in Kaiju-Sized Trouble
In an effort to prevent future destruction by the Titans, Amanda Waller has assembled a new Suicide Squad in conjunction with Colonel Leland Shaw of the Human Defense Corps. Their mission is to construct a Titan army. To achieve this, they have forcefully recruited Lex Luthor, who was previously incarcerated for nearly causing global destruction during the first “Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong” event. Meanwhile, the Justice League is taking a break from their usual duties to attend Barry Allen and Iris West’s wedding, with most of them watching the ceremony from the Hall of Justice due to Barry’s secret identity as the Flash. The only heroes physically present were Hal Jordan, Clark Kent, and Lois Lane, but during the reception, Lois received a call from Mercy Graves informing her that Luthor had escaped. The Justice League traced Luthor’s active power suit to a hidden H.O.C. base, where they discovered the Suicide Squad had used a boom tube to travel elsewhere. Upon following the trail, the League found themselves on Skull Island.
In the meantime, Lex Luthor and Enchantress collaborate, using their exceptional scientific and magical prowess to initiate phase one of an experiment on King Shark as part of the Squad’s project. They imbued him with some form of mystical energy, causing King Shark to grow larger and larger, becoming as colossal as Godzilla. Regrettably, this sudden surge in size and power seemed to have a reverse impact on his mind, leading King Shark to rampage through Cape Town. However, it wasn’t long before Godzilla sensed another Titan demanding his attention, ready to teach another lesson.
The epic battle between the titanized King Shark and Godzilla was incredibly fierce, just as you’d expect. Although King Shark was the king of sharks, Godzilla reigned supreme as the King of Monsters. In a move reminiscent of professional wrestling, the irradiated beast hurled King Shark to the ground after picking him up. Godzilla was moments away from annihilating King Shark with his fiery breath when the effects of the experiment wore off, reducing King Shark back to his regular size. With interest waning, Godzilla retreated to the ocean. Meanwhile, at the Suicide Squad’s newly established headquarters, Shaw ordered Luthor and Enchantress to ready themselves for phase two. Waller tried to assert her authority, but Shaw silenced her by shooting her, leaving her dead on the floor. Declaring himself in control, Shaw made it clear that his relentless pursuit of the Titans would not cease.
The Suicide Squad Can Make Their Own Titans
The Suicide Squad possesses the unique capability to create temporary kaijus, and they’re currently pursuing something on Skull Island. Harley Quinn and Captain Cold are attempting to decipher some sort of coordinates related to this mission. This could explain Kong’s aggression towards the Justice League, as they might be after the same mystical energy that stripped Superman and Supergirl of their powers upon arrival. It’s also likely that King Shark being transformed into a Titan is just a small part of their grand scheme, and other characters like Killer Croc could also experience this transformation. Clearly, Shaw aims to ensure humanity can always defend against superheroes and Titans, making this crossover event one you won’t want to miss.
