DC Finally Brings Superman & Darkseid's Rivalry to a Brutal End

As a lifelong DC fan, I must say that this week’s DC All-In Special #1 has truly taken my breath away. The intense battle between Superman and Darkseid was nothing short of epic, with a level of brutality that I haven’t seen since Bizarro decided to remodel Metropolis.

This week brings us the first installment of the epic showdown, DC All-In Special #1, where Superman faces off against Darkseid in a brutal, unrestrained battle. Unlike previous encounters, this time there were no rules. Darkseid, armed with The Spectre’s power, stormed the Justice League Watchtower. After a brief skirmish with the League, Superman dealt what seemed to be a fatal blow by using Zatanna’s magic to separate Darkseid from The Spectre and disintegrating him, leaving behind a tear in space-time. This rift can only be navigated by Booster Gold, as the multiverse is largely inaccessible to DC’s heroes due to current restrictions.

It was a brutal but deserved ending for Darkseid — or would have been, if he had actually met his end. Instead, Darkseid seemingly created a new universe, in which he is the ultimate power.

The scene where Superman confronts Darkseid, apparently annihilating him with mere words, seems to deliberately echo the events of “Final Crisis” comic series, during which Superman utilized music as a weapon against the tyrant. Moreover, it skillfully establishes the contrast between the primary DC Universe and its “Absolute” version.

Scott Snyder stated that when All-In was announced, he and other creators, including Mark Waid, had devised a plot for Absolute Power where Darkseid, unbeknownst to the superheroes, starts to feel something is amiss. In a crucial moment during Absolute Power, Darkseid senses a change that we don’t want to reveal yet. Once he realizes this, it propels him into a journey that will pit him against the new Justice League being assembled by Superman – a more robust team. This confrontation between these two powerful forces will alter the DC cosmos significantly.
