DC Gives One of Its Biggest Villains A Godly Upgrade

As a seasoned DC Universe fan with over two decades of comic-reading under my belt, I must say that the latest “DC All In Special” #1 has left me utterly spellbound! The plot unfolds like a symphony of cosmic proportions, with Darkseid, one of the most formidable villains in the DC pantheon, taking center stage.

After concluding its grand crossover event “Absolute Power,” DC swiftly moved on to introduce a fresh chapter in its universe, labeled as the “All-In” era. The opening act of this new phase is the release of DC All In Special #1, a comic that immediately establishes high stakes for the revamped DC Universe.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW!

Since the “Dark Crisis” event, where he was manipulated by Pariah and The Empty Hand, Darkseid has remained hidden within the DC Multiverse. Desiring control over the Great Darkness, he returned to Apokolips and prepared for an imminent war. In the first issue of “DC All-In Special,” it’s unveiled that during his absence, Darkseid constructed one of DC’s mightiest artifacts: the Miracle Machine. This device allows its user to make wishes, which are then fulfilled upon bonding with the wisher. True to form, Darkseid wished for a cataclysmic campaign of devastation across the cosmos, even going as far as killing his own son, Kalibak. His ultimate wish was to be bound with the Spectre entity, transforming himself into a new divine form.

The evolution doesn’t end there, though: Darkseid/Spectre’s fight with the Justice League Unlimited culminates in Superman using a combination of magic and the Spectre’s influence to finally obliterate Darkseid. However, through the Spectre Darkseid learned that he is a universal constant tied to the creation of life across the multiverse; when Amanda Waller sealed off the multiverse during the start of “Absolute Power” she inadvertently imbued Darkseid Prime with the true totality of his power. Darkseid is able to finally locate one of the hidden centers of the new DC multiverse: Alpha World or Earth-Alpha, which Darkseid – now having transcended his physical form – is able to reshape into a world of his own making, giving birth to DC’s “Absolute Universe.”

Darkseid has become the supreme ruler of his universe, and this change significantly influences the backstories and roles of characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in the upcoming DC Absolute Universe books. The heroes are being manipulated by Darkseid to have their origins and objectives twisted into aligning with Darkseid’s evil vision – for instance, changing Wonder Woman into a daughter of Hell. Unfortunate Booster Gold finds himself trapped in the Absolute reality, where he witnesses the terrifyingly powerful version of Darkseid and the squad of Dark Legion that he has already unleashed.

Based on the suspenseful finale in issue #1 of DC All In Special, it appears that Darkseid intends to assert dominion over the Absolute Universe, transforming it into an invading force with the objective of subjugating Earth Prime and the primary reality within the DC Universe, as events unfold swiftly thereafter.

DC All In Special #1 is now on sale.
