Surprisingly, it was revealed that the sinister organization known as Inferno was none other than the Legion of Doom. However, things were not what they appeared to be, as this Legion turned out to be an old enemy. The events leading up to this revelation were initially presented in We Are Yesterday part 1, and in Justice League Unlimited #6, we discover how such a formidable alliance was forged. This is directly connected to the individual who obtained Martian Manhunter’s powers following Absolute Power, and unfortunately, it’s the last person anyone would want to have those abilities. So, beware of spoilers from Justice League Unlimited #6 if you haven’t read the issue yet!
The situation unfolds with Gorilla Grodd being incarcerated in Gorilla City following events from We Are Yesterday part 1. He notices an enigmatic sound, which he later refers to as a “mysterious resonance.” This sound gradually transforms into what he perceives as a “telepathic cry from afar” and an “ethereal energy searching for a vessel.
Later, Grodd manipulates his mental strength to pull the disconnected energy source towards him. Once he connects, he exclaims, “My awareness bursts!” At this instant, a vibrant energy emanates around his head, resembling a halo, and it quickly becomes apparent to Grodd what transpired and who bestowed this power enhancement upon him.
As these newfound abilities meld with my own, vivid recollections surface within me. These, these are the powers of the Martian Manhunter, I can hardly believe it. Somehow, they’ve been detached from their original bearer, and now, they’re at my command, amplifying my mental prowess, enhancing my telepathic and telekinetic abilities, and so much more, at an almost unimaginable rate.
In the cell, Grodd manages to snap the restraints and demolish the door, given that Martian Manhunter’s abilities have significantly increased his lethality, and he was already formidable prior to this. Swiftly employing Martian Manhunter’s augmented powers, Grodd instigates his elaborate schemes, as depicted in the images provided above.
In terms of myself, I’ve been grappling with the disappearance of my abilities, a struggle I hid from the rest of the League initially. However, when it came to light during a mission, I took a brief leave. Now, the team is working hard to identify who took my powers. Remarkably, Grodd has harnessed those powers to bypass the complexities of time and space, creating an ultimate adversary for us – a foe designed specifically to challenge the Justice League. You can read more about this in Justice League Unlimited #6.
Get ready for ‘Yesterday Part 2’! The shocking true nature of the Inferno cult has been unveiled, and the Legion of Evil is on the move with no intention of sparing anyone! However, something seems amiss about these ruthless adversaries of the Justice League. They seem to lack strategy and tactical experience — yet they possess a mysterious advantage?
