As a long-time comics enthusiast who’s witnessed the evolution of Batman since his early days at Detective Comics, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Scott Snyder’s return to the Dark Knight with “Absolute Batman“. Having grown up on Snyder’s gripping tales of Bruce Wayne and Gotham City, I find myself eagerly anticipating this new take on one of my favorite superheroes.
In 2011, Scott Snyder (American Vampire) revamped Batman as part of The New 52: DC Comics’ line-wide relaunch of its entire DC Universe line of comic books post-Flashpoint. The publisher’s next line-wide initiative, DC All In, begins in October with DC All In Special #1 by co-writers Snyder and Joshua Williamson (Superman), which launches a lineup of comics set in the newly-reimagined Absolute Universe: Absolute Batman by Snyder and Nick Dragotta (Image’s East of West), Absolute Superman by Jason Aaron (Scalped) and Rafa Sandoval (Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps), and Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson (Captain Marvel) and Hayden Sherman (Detective Comics).
In Nick’s response to fan queries during a Reddit AMA, he mentioned that he and Nick have been associated with this book as collaborators for quite some time, expressing their hope for an extended collaboration of several years if it aligns with the readers’ preferences. Snyder further emphasized that Jason, Rafa, Kelly, and Hayden share similar thoughts – they are not just dabbling in this project
The ongoing “Batman” from October 9th, which we call the “New Batman of the Absolute Universe.” This is a recurring series we’ve named “The Dark Knight.” It doesn’t involve money, mansion, or butler in its core-line. The description goes like this: “A version of the Dark Knight that doesn’t have the money, mansion, or butler of his core-line counterpart.”
n example of using various phrases to describe a series of actions or states:
“I don’t want to give too much away but one of the core concepts of the series is that in this world, Bruce will be the small chaos in the system and the villains will be more powerful, have more resources,” Snyder teased, adding Absolute Batman’s rogues “play a new and particular role” in this alternate-universe Gotham City.
The dwelling place of Bruce or Batman
In a conversation about upcoming DC comics releases, Snyder expressed a desire to create a fresh yet familiar feel for the new Batman series. He wants it to embody the essence of Batman as a symbol of anarchy, contrasting with the system, making him a terrifying folk hero and underdog unlike any other. Crucially, this version of Batman will not be bound by the persona of Bruce Wayne, allowing him to be just an ordinary commuter on the subway, and in that sense, he is everyone.
The DC All In Special #1 will hit shelves on October 2nd, followed by Absolute Batman #1 on October 9th, Absolute Wonder Woman #1 on October 23rd, and Absolute Superman #1 on November 6th
