DC’s Absolute Power Comic-Con Panel Recap (SDCC)

As a long-time DC Comics fan and avid gamer, I’m beyond excited about the latest crossover event from DC: “Absolute Power.” The sheer scale and complexity of this storyline have me hooked!

I was thrilled to learn that DC Comics is unleashing one of their grandest and daring crossover storylines yet, titled “Absolute Power.” At San Diego Comic-Con, the creative minds behind this epic event shared insights into the making of this exciting new adventure, leaving fans like me eagerly anticipating its release!

Amanda Waller from DC Comics, known as “The Wall” for her expertise in espionage, has proven her worth by orchestrating a complex assault against the Justice League and all DC superheroes. Simultaneously, she manipulated evidence using advanced AI to falsely accuse the heroes of Earth of planning a coup. In truth, Waller seized many of their powers and imprisoned them on Earth-Prime, leaving no avenue for escape through cosmic, mystical, time travel, or multiversal means.

Mark Waid, Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora, Daniel Sampere, and Nicole Maines, the creative team behind Absolute Power, shared some insights during their panel discussion. Waid expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate on this project, particularly with DC’s iconic duo, Superman and Batman, aka the World’s Finest team.

Wait further explored the concept of Absolute Power and its allure for DC’s well-known heroes. According to Waid, they will be faced with tough decisions, and these choices will take the heroes, who lack superpowers, by surprise.

At the occasion, Waid praised Dan Moira’s contributions by labeling him as a skillful storyteller, which was effectively conveyed through his visually striking illustrations.

Waid commended Maines’ contribution to Suicide Squad: Dream Team, leaving her on the brink of tears and causing her mascara to smear. She shared her experience collaborating on Dreamer’s character development, making her a pivotal figure in Absolute Power. At this young age, she was only eighteen and struggling to grapple with the moral implications of thwarting Waller’s plan. Maines hinted at the potential direction of Dreamer’s visions, her unique bond with Jon Kent (Superman) as kindred spirits, and their upcoming reunion in Super Sons.

The focus was on Daniel Sampere’s contributions to Wonder Woman’s comic series, where he shared his experiences collaborating with writer Tom King. He discussed the immense responsibility they held in shaping such a renowned character, and the intricacy of portraying Wonder Woman as powerful yet caring and sensitive.
