As a die-hard DC fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the fresh sneak peek of “Batman: H2SH,” the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic storyline penned by none other than Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee! The original “Batman: Hush” redefined our understanding of the Dark Knight, introducing us to the enigmatic villain Hush who sparked a new wave of captivating storytelling. This epic saga was even brought to life in an animated film adaptation. With “Batman: H2SH” hitting screens in March, the latest trailer gives us a tantalizing glimpse into the world of both Batman and the cunning Hush, as well as its exceptional creative team.
The intro for “Batman: H2SH” begins with Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee gradually appearing, making their way towards some chairs. The trailer states, “The long-awaited sequel in comics history from renowned storytellers Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee,” as we see animated scenes directly lifted from the artwork of Jim Lee, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair, and Richard Starkings within “Batman: H2SH”. We observe Batman eliminating members of the Joker Gang while he acrobatically maneuvers and evades gunfire. The trailer concludes with a glance at the cover of “Batman” #158 and a close-up of Hush placing his finger to his lips in a “hush” gesture.
The much-anticipated sequel to “Hush,” titled “H2SH,” was formally unveiled at the New York Comic Con during the Jim Lee and Friends Panel. Alongside the announcement and the artwork, DC Entertainment revealed that a prelude for “Hush 2” would be featured in issue #1 of “Justice League Unlimited” on November 27th. The actual storyline for “Hush 2” is set to commence on March 26th with issue #158 of “Batman.” In September, DC Entertainment will reboot “Batman” with a new first issue and creative team, featuring writer Matt Fraction, artists Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles as they launch “Batman” #1.
Additionally, DC published the initial “Hush” series as Facsimile Editions, starting in January with issues #608 and #609 of “Batman”. In relation to the prequel for “Hush 2”, it became clear that Hush will don a new costume. The storyline depicts Hush meticulously compiling a list of targets within his lair, scrutinizing members of Batman’s family.
During the introduction, Hush references Aristotle’s thoughts on tyranny as he examines various chess pieces, each one symbolizing a member of the Batman team. He initially selects Batman’s piece, then proceeds to consider others such as Huntress and Red Hood. He accidentally knocks over Alfred’s piece, moves Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon, Batgirl, Talia, and crushes Damian’s figure with a heavy hand. Finally, he gently touches Nightwing’s piece before the two-page finale where he viciously impales Joker’s likeness on the last spread.
In the upcoming storyline for Batman: H2SH, variant cover artworks hint at a significant part played by Jason Todd, also known as Red Hood. The front page of Batman #159 presents an intense scene where a furious Jason Todd is brandishing twin submachine guns, with both Joker and Batman lying on the ground amidst scattered bullet casings. Interestingly, despite not being part of the original Hush storyline, Jason Todd made a substantial impact through his death and supposed resurrection that affected Batman’s mind throughout the series. Ironically, Jason Todd actually came back to life soon after these events in the narrative.
